Until recently the xbox team was the one at ms who knew what they were doing but with the one they have screwed up as much as the rest of microsoft…. this really is a much bigger problem for them than the products they make and its baffling to see how they can be messing up this bad with the messaging.
Their drm actually gives them a number of benefits not possible on the ps4 but they did not spend one second hyping that but instead let the story be told by the fans/journalists. Had they come out at the first announcement and said we are doing family sharing and showed how that would work I don’t think many would have been upset. Then you go and say we will be operating more like steam with regular deals and we are starting this with EA (or some other publisher) to make games half off after 3 months on the market.
A good example of how you do this is what sony did with the psn+ and paying for multiplayer, because of the price and drm stanc everybody glossed over this when their fans would have revolted on any other day.

Surface RT (Office comes builtin)
Skydrive
Skype
Xbox Music
Outlook.com
That said this next round of updates better fix a majority of the problems…. getting really close to switching to everything google.
I have an android phone because nokia has decided they don’t want my money so I already have to live in that ecosystem some and with my phone their services work better (as expected). Because of that I have started to look at their music service and other stuff. Xbox music had better get ios/android applications out there quickly or that might be the first victim for me and once that starts who knows where it will end. I had been wanting to try out a chrome os device for a while now too and just last week bought a chromebox. I really needed proper lastpass integration (since surface rt will not give me that).

Good…. 3d was something nobody wants in its current implementation. Now hopefully 3d movies will die next.

You really can’t control the notification center anymore than a live tile…. a few apps have put in options but not many for both live tiles and the notification center. Also the live tile can do some interesting things like flip over and show the real time radar map for weather which isn’t really possible with a notification center.
You really think about it android has widgets, icons and the notification center to do what ms has managed to do with just one thing, the live tile. Sure its more simplistic and can’t match every feature each things offers but they managed to do in 1 what it takes google 3.
As for accessing content directly that is what the pin is supposed to be for but I do agree not enough apps support pinning what you want. Android really needs to add a pin option as well where I can pin an icon to go straight to a file or section of an app

This should have been a wp8/w8 launch game…. and more games like it. They should be putting out their real franchises on win8. A real fable game (not some crappy coin golf clone), forza, etc.
Then you tie it in with the xbox one and let us pay once to get it on any screen we have and use the cloud to sync progress.

I still think most are missing the point with regards to tv…. as you said in the article this is all about laying the platform and underlying os, just look at how many things were added to the 360 over its lifespan and the 360 was never designed to have those features added over time (not it will be). It’s about the tv of today and tomorrow.
I think one of two things will happen in future software updates:
1. They release tuners and add tv dvr to the box (they already have media center tuners for most of the world now)
2. They keep partnering with the various providers for an iptv solution that uses the cloud for dvr functions.
