Yeah, I don’t understand the difference there, because 1. I’ve never read enough about it. 2. I’m not as much interested. I never claimed to know it, so I don’t know why you’d get hostile.
I think I’ve got Facebook chat and WhatsApp set up perfectly for myself, with just about the right segregation, so I’ve never felt the need for a desktop/tablet version, which explains why I prefer it over others.
Also, everyone I need, and more, is on this service, which is neat across iOS, Android and most importantly, Windows Phone.

yes, but did I champion open or closed-source protocols? No. I mentioned what works for me. If it doesn’t work for you/you don’t like it, fine.
As far as WhatsApp’s phone number-based ID goes, I prefer that over PINs. I install the app, input my number, people using it show up in favorites and we can start conversing without having to send across PIN numbers and inputting each of it manually. If you don’t mind doing all of that, good for you.

Oh, look, another Open Source ninja.
One thing – WhatsApp works for me. Open standards or not, I could care less. Works? Yes. That’s what I want to be bothered about, not if it’s open sourced.

ZTE Blade? Great, great device! Launched with Froyo (or Eclair) when I got it and is today running 4.1.2, courtesy CM10.

absolutely! I switch between WP and Android, and so, WhatsApp will continue to be my default app.

Unless it shows me the status of a contact and lets me sort them based on it, I’m not going to upgrade. Also hoping there will be a desktop Windows app, but I’m probably asking for too much from Google.

yes, I’m going to try it, definitely, but I love WhatsApp’s philosophy of PIN-less accounts.

Only one friend of mine is active on BBM. All of my friends are active on WhatsApp, plus there’s a WP app.

I’d pay for that. Heck, a Kickstarter for this would reach its goal in days.

this is why I moved away from SMSs and on to WhatsApp, but no chat sync is a bit annoying, although I’ve never looked back.
