I think I see this story differently. Theoretically, wouldn’t a setup where they substitute the supernodes enable them to more easily comply with CIA/FBI/NSA requests to listen in on the Skype conversations of folks under investigation? At this point I’m guessing that Microsoft would now have the ability to route Skype calls as they see fit instead of allowing the network to handle it. I suspect this could have much farther reaching implications than increasing reliability. Or maybe I’m just paranoid…
