We’ve been overlaying fancy interfaces on top of cable signals and praying for IR blasters to adequately control the boxes for years now, and it’s never worked…

I’d argue that it worked for Tivo, paving the way for pretty much all modern DVRs. Other than that, though, I agree — the fragmented nature of TV is going to keep things messy for quite a while, and the best Microsoft or anyone else can hope for in the immediate future is just to stay competitive in a crowded field.

I actually like Facebook home — but as a replacement for the Facebook app, not as a launcher that takes over everything on my phone. But I’ll keep an open mind.

I understand why they’re scared. When Areo comes to Chicago, I’ll almost certainly dump cable…unless some big compelling change or innovation appears.

And as far as I can tell, no one wants to change or innovate, when it’s safer and cheaper to sue.
