I’d argue that it worked for Tivo, paving the way for pretty much all modern DVRs. Other than that, though, I agree — the fragmented nature of TV is going to keep things messy for quite a while, and the best Microsoft or anyone else can hope for in the immediate future is just to stay competitive in a crowded field.
I actually like Facebook home — but as a replacement for the Facebook app, not as a launcher that takes over everything on my phone. But I’ll keep an open mind.
