How do opinions at The Verge generally go with regard to OEMs eschewing soft buttons/navigation bar ala the Galaxy Nexus?
This is purely speculative, but I don’t think Google is done finding unique uses for it. With Jellybean and beyond I fully expect more than just Back/Home/Recents/Menu to appear on the navigation bar. Won’t this put devices like the Galaxy S III and HTC One X at a distinct disadvantage within the next 6 months?

This. Hard/Capacitive buttons are a non-starter with me. Bring on the new Nexus portfolio of devices.

I’d be really put off if I was talking to someone while they were wearing Google Glasses.
This is a selling point.

Who remembers Google & Verizon proposing hard-line broadband net neutrality? Everyone pissed and moaned that they weren’t making the same proposal for wireless.
The expression “throwing the baby out with the bathwater” comes to mind.

This is pretty much the dream scenario. They might as well enable Google Voice SIP calling while they’re at it.

Does this Xbox have a history of being a platform with open development/distribution in the same vein as Windows?
Answer that question and you’ll have the answer to yours.

Microsoft needs one or more of its partners to ship a competent tablet at a competitive price. Microsoft needs developers of all stripes to embrace Metro and create compelling Metro apps (and fast). Microsoft needs consumers to have a positive response to the new UX paradigm established by Windows 8. Microsoft needs innovation on par with what is introduced in Android Jellybean/Keylime Pie and iOS 6.
Until Microsoft accomplishes ALL of those things, they won’t be crushing anything.

There are many problems with Microsoft’s approach. I’ve gone from “cautiously optimistic” to decidedly less so as specific details have come to light.
Windows RT tablets (it’s unlikely to ship on other form factors) are competing, primarily, with iOS on the iPad. The two biggest hurdles they need to overcome are an inadequate ecosystem and consumer perception. While I could go on at length, the latter could have been helped a great deal by dropping the desktop completely from Windows RT and re-branding it something other than “Windows.”

How confusing would it be to have a chrome on ARM metro and as well ondesktop, what sense would that make?
Apparently it made sense to Microsoft to do this with IE. If it’s so confusing, they should kill IE on the desktop for Windows RT. Level the playing field with the other browsers.

So, you’re telling me that “no one” will get the idea to connect a mouse/keyboard/monitor to a Windows RT tablet? They’ll magically know not to do that despite it being a common occurrence with x86 devices?
I’m telling you: as soon as someone uses a Windows RT tablet in a desktop configuration, they’re going to want to use a proper desktop browser. They’ll quickly discover that they’re locked-in to IE and have no alternatives to choose from. That sucks.
