Tesla may be in a better position than Better Place. Better Place only did battery swapping so they had to negotiate with other manufacturers to get on board. It’s difficult to get many different companies to agree on a battery standard.
Tesla on the other hand is actually selling vehicles with it’s own battery. Not to mention it’s selling batteries to other manufacturers already. Toyota and Mercedes (or BMW, I can’t remember) are currently using their batteries. With this foundation they might automatically become the standard for electric batteries in automotive. In their case they will have actual cars on the road that can take advantage of this system.
The idea sounds great. I hope they are successful. Only time will tell.
