all the best comedies have a similar structure. look at Shawn of the Dead and Hot Fuzz (and upcoming World’s End), they are essentially the same film, with a lot of internal recurring gags.
i wouldn’t mind if they had pulled the Hobbit trick – expanding it over longer hours for character and plot development, AND, you know, to dilute all that action. After all in the original novel the space battles only existed as computer simulations to the kids.

Not a supporter of such research, I just want to point out that China isn’t the only country dancing dangerously with lethal viruses.
On the contrary, being previously hit with H5N1, some people in China might feel further justified to conduct such research for “pandemic preparedness.”
