BB has already said that 50% of it’s users are coming from other platforms – although I would take this with a grain of salt but there probably is some truth to it or why say it at all?
I realize the importance of the US market, but it’s not the only market and only represents 5% of the worlds population. Also with time, the US market becomes less and less important with the shifting wealth of West to East. You don’t have to dominate the US market to be profitable or relevant.

If they are selling millions of Q10’s and Z10’s to Western Markets, how can it not make a difference? Of course they are not going to grow double digit marketshare over night or even in a year, but I am talking about just growth in subscribers.
Even if they don’t grow their subscribers in Western markets and only grow elsewhere, they are still growing. Your mindset and argument is very USA centric it seems.

Sorry, I am not understanding how I am moving the goalposts?
BBM has more users today than it ever has. Fact. It doesn’t matter if they are on Earth or Titan.
I merely responded to your comment:
Their numbers have held up thanks to places like indonesia, which generate unit sales and revenues but very little by way of profits.

ATM, they aren’t selling millions of Z10’s and Q10’s to emerging markets – they are selling to the West and getting a high margin on the devices. The US of course is an important market, but is not the ONLY market.
BTW, loosing market share does not equal loosing subscribers. BB only lost subscribers in one or two quarters ever. They still have 78+ million users and this is more than they had in 2011, 2010…. Blackberry has always continued growing, just not at the same rate as the rest of the booming smartphone segment.

The reason they have not announced BBM for WP is I don’t think WP is large enough. BB wants iOS and Android customers and BBM is a strategy to get a piece of BB on those devices.

You didn’t really disprove what I said. Gaining subscriptions and growing is what BB did until very recently and a partial reason for that is they hadn’t released a new handset for 1.5 years aside from the fact of an aging platform which BB10 addresses.
The analysis you presented of loosing marketshare in the USA is a different argument and topic entirely. Also last I checked, the UK and Canada are the “West” and BB retains significant marketshare in those countries.

I don’t think you realize that BBM is probably as big as it has ever been.
BlackBerry’s user base has never collapsed. They were gaining subscriptions up until last year. It’s only been a quarter or two that they lost users. I think with their new devices there is the possibility that they begin to grow users once again in the next year.

There are 60 million current BBM users that just have to say to their friends “hey, download BBM” and they probably will. I have never even heard of Hike whereas everyone has heard of BBM.

I think the move is to show how BBM and BB are king of communication by going cross platform. It would be pointless to offer the services and not showcase the superiority of BBM versus all other messaging services.
BBM will offer voicecalls, video calls, channels, groups all cross platform and with the reliability that nobody else can match. IMHO, BBM will potentially be king of this space.

You don’t have to pay for BBM subscription if you have a BB. And TH said it will be 100% free.

I must have read a hundred times people saying that Heins said tablets will be dead.
What he actually said was:
“In five years I don’t think there’ll be a reason to have a tablet anymore,”
Can y’all not grasp the vast difference of these two statements?
What I take from his statement is that why will you need a tablet when your phone will be your one all encompassing computing device. Your phone will be able to do anything you want it to on and size or form factor of screen.
Will this come true? Who knows……..

Things that are obvious are usually obvious in hindsight.
BB10 has only been out for 2 months and I’m not sure much can be said on whether or not it can or will be able to gain back significant marketshare.
They didn’t loose the marketshare overnight and they won’t gain it back overnight. BB needs to be in for the long haul which is what I think BB10 displays thus far.

I think more than 8 wouldn’t be practical IMHO mainly because at that point pretty much all the RAM is used up. I don’t think I have found myself thus far feeling like I wish I had more than 8.
I think what would be most useful with active frames is to be able to arrange them and pin them. As the OS gets updates and refinements, I am sure this kind of stuff will get addressed. Only makes sense.

Have a hard time believing that it’s better than the Bold 9900 which I have read on many occasions in various reviews as the best keyboard ever on a phone. The Q10 builds on the Bold 9900 KB and I would think it’s just as good if not better.
