Our company does the same thing. The company owns that information and, now more than ever, it is important to protect IP. We cannot set up mailbox forwarding and our nuclear side is not allowed to have cameras on their phones.

The OG Droid had the best screen at the time and for months after its launch (til the iPhone 4). It also launched with almost completely stock Android 2.0 with no Blur anywhere to be found.

Firefox and Safari would have and were killing IE. There was no reason for Google to push Chrome, other than to have a platform they controlled for their services.
Android is getting more people into Google services. Eventually, the PC market will be dead, and everyone will have phones/tablets as their main device (I’d argue it is already happening with smartphones and iPads) and if Google plays its cards right, like it is with phones, the main way to look up information, listen to music, watch video, work on office productivity software and buy apps, will be through their services.

That is a very small minded view and extremely short sighted. Google is doing the same thing with Android that game console manufactures, wireless carriers and razor blade companies have been doing for ever. Take a loss up front and make your product something people will end up using for years. Over that time, you will more than recoup your losses and make a nice profit.
That’s like saying Google is in the hole with Chrome. It’s not the most used browser, which makes more people use the internet, and more importantly, Google’s services more. These are multibillion dollar investments.
BTW, Apple did this a long time ago. They sold Macs to schools for extremely cheap so that students would be familiar with them and buy them when they were out of school.
