Its not about if the broadband or any connections is available, its why should it be required once on a 24 hr basis. The only reason is for their drm, not for any noble idea about future-proofing or being cloud based. If that was the case then an active connection would be required for cloud saved and whatnot but thats not the case. they want you to check in once a day to make sure you are not stealing games or trying to use used games, or god forbid letting your buddy bring his game over to your house.
FYI to Google, not everyone uses RSS to read news. Personally I use it for aggregating from meme websites for a quick daily dose of humor. It works perfectly for this and put all this type of content in one place for me. There are many other ways to use reeder as well so the excuse of their being a better way for one possible use is pretty weak to me.
