I see the chart. But if T-Mobile rolls out LTE, no one has any idea what their speeds are going to look like. I see that chart as comparing networks, not really comparing technologies.
I too once had “LTE fevor” and got a Verizon LTE phone as soon as I could shortly after their LTE network launched. The speeds were incredible. I was getting around 20 Mbps at times. Now that their LTE network has been around the block for a year now and more people have gotten on the LTE train, I am lucky to even see 12 Mbps speeds (just tested it and i’m getting 12.19 Mbps).
With that said, you’re going to get comparable speeds between LTE and HSPA+. With the bigger battery drain, and larger chip. I don’t see LTE as a any real progress over HSPA+. You’ll only really see a difference once you reach their theoretical caps; LTE’s is 1000 Mbps, while HSPA+’s is 640 Mbps. But I’de wager that 5G networks would start rolling around before networks are running at their theoretical caps time making that argument mute.

Why?
HSPA+ offers identical speeds to LTE. HPSA+ is less of a battery drain than LTE. Further more HSPA+ phones are generally lighter/thinner than LTE phones.

“communicating multi-part messages between cellular devices using a standardized interface”
A “standardized interface?” I feel like that part is so generalized that the patent should be invalid. Wasn’t there a recent court ruling on a few of Apple’s patents saying that they were overly generalized?
Not to mention, that anything that sends TCP packets that need to be broken up between mobile devices violates this patent.

For many people the OS is completely unnecessary. They go straight from booting right into the browser.
ChromeOS concept is a little ahead of it’s time. They’ve really should have waited to put an Intel Ivybridge i3 in there. Which would have given us really good WebGL support.

Motorola’s latest products for Verizon are the Droid 4, Droid RAZR, Droid Bionic. and the Droid X2. These are the only devices that Verizon sells anymore. The oldest in that list is the Droid X2 which came out July 2011; only 11 months ago.
Verizon doesn’t sell the Droid, Droid 2, Droid 3, or the Droid X anymore.
Heck, if they didn’t flood the market themselves, they could still be selling their older devices at a cheaper price point rather than one of their newer models.

Actually, the incentive for them to update their old devices, is so they can actually continue to sell them and make a profit off of them as their hardware gets cheaper to make/buy.

On the contrary, you could still sell your old devices and continue to make a profit off of them if you kept the software up to date. You know instead of just throwing all of the old unsold devices in a massive landfill just because they’re a major software version behind.

Right, but I’m talking about the new API’s that developers could use but can’t because they need to develop for the lowest common denominator.
