Me. I have spare batteries and I do switch them out when needed. The key is that the option is there. And let’s say after a year, the battery isn’t so fresh and good anymore… ala iphone, Nexus, One… what can you do? You’re stuck with the phone with an ailing battery… (don’t even mention getting battery swapped – did you read how impossibly difficult it is to take One apart?). With a removable battery, you pop in a new battery, your phone is as good as new. And for moments when it counts when you’re out in the field and can’t charge your phone or don’t want to lug around a portable battery charger (which you have to do precisely b/c you can’t change batteries), removable batteries are invaluable. And on top of that, being able to expand memory is also great. I put all my music and videos on an sd card.
Between One and S4, I’d go with S4 because of the fact S4 has removable battery and micro sd slot. This whole non-removable battery thing apple started is horses arse.

Ok, you got me! Right. You think you know everything. FYI, 4g (wimax) was practically unusable on Sprint on Evo not because the network wasn’t ready or built out enough but b/c turning on 4g meant battery that wouldn’t last through half the day. So she always turned off 4g to save battery… then what’s the point??? A big selling feature of Evo was 4g. And we all know how crappy and virtually unusable Sprint’s 3g is.
I’m a Verge reader, a tinkerer, a hacker, probably just like you. My sister is like your sister (if you have one). You can’t expect her to root the phone or put CM9/10 on it.
And I hope you know that the phone manufacturer’s claim of “oh the phone can’t handle ics/jb” is all crap right? Their crappy skins (ala Sense) are much more resource intensive and a memory and battery hog.

HTC have themselves to blame. They were careless about battery life and performance and showed no software support for once-flagship phones. My sister bought Evo back in March 2011 – back then, it was still a flagship at Sprint. All I ever hear from her is how bad the battery life is and how slow and unstable the phone has become. That experience left her so wary of HTC; you can bet it’ll be a long time before she picks up another HTC, regardless of how good the current flagship – One – may be. Plus, they left Evo on Gingerbread. To just dump a flagship phone in the trenches… that’s inexcusable.

The retro design was cute at first but I’m now so sick of Fuji and Oly taking it to the literal extreme.

I find it appalling how some people come in here and expect the world for nothing. Then they go on a bash frenzy. I find it amazing how Josh and team are able to hold it all in and are able to respond professionally to such immature assholes.

I like Paul’s writing style. The details in the day to day activities are written so smoothly. Very good article.

I like the fact you’re Korean/Korean-American.
I like the fact you spell your last name as Chae and not Choi.
I like the fact you have good musical tastes (house music).

Good review.
Would like to have Yoga 11S when it comes out but I bet it will be very expensive.

I like this mini approach. I’ve long wished for it, as long as they keep it high end. I hope they didn’t stick in a crappy camera in the process of miniaturizing.

I’m sure it’s not once you get used to it but the point is that the space is just wasted while functionality is removed. HTC logo could have easily been the home button.

Tell that to Samsung. They managed to shave the bezel and stretch the screen going from GS3 to GS4 and still keeping the same size (and even making it thinner).

Bad argument. You bring up a use case of ppl bringing keyboards for their tablet for meetings… then conclude b/c ppl do that, that keyboard use case is also valid for phones. Keep in mind these are tablet keyboards which are big and often give close user experience to a real-sized keyboard. But you can’t just simply drop this application for a phone. The proper comparison would be to stick to virtual typing on a phone vs keyboard typing on a phone, whether for hammering out long emails, ppl prefer touch typing vs physical keyboards (on phone).

Pre 3 keyboard was pretty darn good, a serious contender for the best portrait keyboard. Oh webOS… T_T
