They didn’t remove ad blockers due to lost profits from ads, they removed them because they violated Google’s Developer Distribution Agreement (which clearly states that developers must not create an app “that interferes with, disrupts, damages, or accesses in an unauthorized manner the devices, servers, networks, or other properties or services of any third party…”), which all devs need to agree to before releasing any app… It just took long for them to act upon it.
Also, anyone who wants an ad blocker can simply side load one of the many available directly from the developer’s own websites. Something that just isn’t possible with iOS.
