Actually cars are designed to behave well when they crash. Every manufacturer wants to have a car that is safe, hence ex(t/p)ensive crash tests.

I’ve owned both an iPhone 3GS and a MacBook Pro for years, both were very well made and I really enjoyed using them on a daily basis.
After 2 or so years of throwing it around my 3GS was fine except broken mute switch and some cracks on the back.
I’ve held and used iPhone 4 on a few occasions and it definitely feels more fragile; I’ve also read and heard a lot about how easily it’s glass cracks.

I’m not upset, just a bit curious that so many people around the world buy into phones that you have to take extra care after.
It’s your money, put it wherever you like. I’m cool with that.

That’s exactly what I’d upgrade my 6300 to :)

Why not get one and use it for a week?
It may feel surprisingly good :-)

By all means: do as you please.
I choose not to settle for fragile phones and so I use the hell out my trusty 6300.
It’s so liberating to know that – if it eventually breaks – I can just pick another for a fraction of what an iPhone is worth.
And it fits wonderfully in any hand, trust me on that :-)

Sure, but when you have to go extra steps to look after your phone (or any object you’re supposed to use many times a day in many different situations), because it’s glass-covered in such a manner, that it may shutter when dropped from a meter height – that’s just bad ergonomics design in my book.

Phones are made to be used, not taken care after.
