Not only that, but it’s apparently replacing Google Talk without keeping all the functionality that Google Talk has, such as XMPP federation – people who migrate to Hangouts and have contacts on other XMPP providers will suddenly find that those people can no longer message them. (Come to think of it, I’m not sure whether it can send messages to Google Talk users either…)

Does MetroTube allow downloads of videos like Microsoft’s application does? So far they’ve been far more aggressive in taking down applications that download YouTube videos than ones that merely block ads on them. In fact, there are even YouTube ad blockers on the Chrome Web Store, whereas extensions that allow YouTube video downloads are forbidden.

MS have been trying to cut off Google’s ad revenues in other ways, such as by blocking tracking by default in recent IE versions. It’s entirely in character for them.

Google’s never cared that much about market share when issuing cease and desist letters against Youtube download services, so I don’t see why WP’s poor market showing would stop them in this case.
