I believe that two different departments are responsible for managing bing, and sending takedown requests.

That is also what I like about it. It does out people and news and communication first.

So as long as PC are being sold, it’s gonna be good. Whether it will be great, depends on the tablets.

I believe that is exactly how it worked on pre-mango too. tap on search button searches within the app, and long tap (or press) opens bing search.

Yup. It’s synonymous with a tablet, for a good reason I guess.
Hopefully some marketing will make them aware that their favourite games can only be played on windows machines :)

While you’re at it, someone on the opera forums has suggested that you should bundle javascripts or something like that.

It’s funny that the page performs much better on IE9 mobile, than on Opera desktop :) It’s practically unusable on desktop because of all the fancy-shmancy floating objects and what not. I wish the simplify it a bit.

I am not such a melodramatic, so I’ll stay :)
Even though I do feel that MS gets less love than the others. But that does not bother me. If I deceide to leave, it’s gonna be for the awful performance of the site in my browser of choice (opera).

That’s a no brainer than.
But i still believe that those that are due for an upgrade can seriously consider W8 combined with other form factors. I don’t think that just the new UX should be a problem. And from what MS is saying, neither should application compatibility.

I would say superbar is the best feature in W7, but I’m starting to like libraries.

The colours and fonts on that second photo look freaking awesome.
But I still prefer the search button than the bar. If only it worked contextually, as it did on 7.0 :(

Oh yes they do. Most parents are in fact the “average consumer” who does not care about the OS and other insignificant things. If he/she decides to buy a tablet to his child, and the child says “I want an ipad”, they will buy an ipad (when price in not an issue).

If what you say is in fact the scenario, I don’t see your logic..
They would be working on a limited specific set of tasks/jobs, which significantly decreases the need to traind and educate them. W8 should be more secure, faster, offer better remote management, lower power consumption, support lower specifications.. I’m sure there are other benefits.
Not to mention that for teachers, tablet is IDEAL form factor.
That being said, there might be specific conditions in your situation that you should consider.

Bright colours + dramatic UI change + large fonts IS metro :)

I’ve had W7 since 2009. And just a short time ago i started using libraries. And I consider myself to be a “power user”! :)
I’m a neat freak and the idea of same type of content being in different locations did not appeal to me.
I started using it because skydrive is a folder, so i had to move all the content I want synced in the skydrive folder. I have no problem with it now.
It’s not exactly a fair comparison, but if people get forced to adopt something, they might learn the new way and like it.

ESPECIALLY when there is no choice :)
Because that means that the dominant OS is the only one quality product. Do you think if there were alternatives OEM’s would not jump on board?

What you have said has been going on since.. Forever. Try running autocad 2011 on an atom :)
Also, metro apps will mostly be lightweight. App is in my mind a different thing than application.

That is interesting. I for example always delete app folders in the start menu. Even though i open apps very rarely by navigating through start menu, I hate the extra click and the lack of visual representation (no app icon). That being said, I can easily imagine that you prefer it that way.
some people will adapt easier than others.

Maybe. I think that particular point is hard to predict. They got burned on WP, so maybe they lowered their estimations?
What is significant? I can easily see them grabbing 10-20% in the first year. Believe it or not, there are a lot of people who buy computers for windows, and it is conceivable that many of those would decide to go with a tablet.
In any case, that is something I am completely unsure of, and will wait and see. I know I will probably be getting an intel tablet.

W8 does not sort files obviously, but it does present them in a better and smarter way in-app. Again, from what I’ve seen. I might be wrong.

They might now how to use it, but they are crap in managing it. Have you ever seen what a file system of an average consumer looks like? It’s a complete and utter mess. Photos, documents, music and other files are all over the place, there is no consistency whatsoever.
From what I have seen, the basic functions that most people need of a computer are much easier on W8.
For example email app.. It lasck, I’m sure, many many features most people here would want. But, it is child’s play compared to say outlook and/or even live mail.
same goes for photos app and other bundled apps.

I did not go into quality here (whatever you and others consider it to be), I was just wondering why some (quite a lot actually) predict that windows will die and similar predictions.

That is exactly my point. No matter how much some people hate or simply dislike it, I don’t see how it could possibly flop.

Upgrade percentage does not matter really. Not even to MS, since they decided to make the upgrade a paid one, even for the new costumers (as opposed to what they did for W7).
There are over a hundred million laptops sold every year, and tablets are also emerging, and there are going to be dozens of models running W8 at launch. With the added revenue from app/games/media sales, it might not be a terrible thing for MS if in the first year W7 results are not matched.

It’s exactly this “average” consumer that everything depends on, and I’m am pretty confident they should welcome the change. I don’t see a possible reason why they should not. All of the issues techies have with W8 (multitasking for example) should not concern average Joe.
