This is anti-trust, this is literally not allowed. No one’s arguing that it wouldn’t benefit google.

Sounds like you have a big opinion on something you’ve just heard about.
Microsoft already released the Youtube WP8 app they developed which got removed due to Google’s takedown request, they’re not asking for Google to support them, they’re simply asking for the readily available API’s to include ads.

Can I honestly ask, what did you expect? Did you expect for WP to miraculously shoot from 2% market share to 10% market share? Are you not familiar with sustained growth?
WP7.x was a flop of an OS with specs that were laughable compared to it’s competitors, WP8 on the other hand is actually quite decent and at least has become a real viable options for a lot of smartphone users. Now WP8 was only released at the very end of 2012/start of 2013 around the world. We’re talking about just over 3 million units gained from Q1 2012 to Q1 2013, that’s with the release of WP8 at the very end.
Say what you want to belittle that, but I think the heads of Microsoft and Nokia are very realistic with their expectations and are going for steady sustained growth, none of this “Oh look, Android exploded over a short period! If you don’t do that then clearly there’s absolutely no other way to make it in the smartphone world”.
If we see any less than 3-5 million Windows Phone units gained to Q1 2014, then I’d be worried. You can make it sound like less with comparisons to the giants of the industry, but WP is a baby OS in comparison and the hard numbers show progress.

As much as I defend my Lumia 920 and WP8 as a whole, I think you’re making the wrong choice if you come to WP8 and still want to use Google’s ecosystem. It would be nice if they supported it, but I think the switch is only smart if you’re prepared to migrate into Microsoft’s ecosystem.

There is a reason they had to update the 920 already. It is a flop.
I guess you could spin it that way, or you could look at the reality of it and realize that Nokia made the 920 exclusive with AT&T so to get around this they are releasing different variations for the other carriers.
On second though, you really shouldn’t spin it that way, it makes you look like an ass.

And decide that whilst the Lumia has a great camera, it’s not worth all shortcoming in other areas
Woah woah hey now, informed consumer here. It has all the apps I need and I’ve amassed a nice enough game & collection that I’m more than satisfied with what’s available. I don’t use Instagram though and I’m happy using my banks online mobile portal as there’s no dedicated app available.
Not that I’m saying everyone has to think like this, but don’t act like every informed customer isn’t going to chose this phone because they don’t have ever app under the sun.
In case you’re interested, here’s all the apps/games that I use on my phone.

What exactly is the issue with the mobile version of Skype on WP8? I know there are improvements to be made but I have to strongly disagree if you think it’s a horrible experience.

Gizmodo did an extensive camera comparison for the iPhone 5, Samsung S4, Nokia Lumia 920, HTC One and Xperia Z.
Be the judge yourself but I think you’re clutching for straws if you think the S4 and HTC one beat the 920.

Urgh me too. It’s like the iPhone ads, did you know the screen transitions were faked to make them look quicker!?!? All credibility lost.

Have you used a WP8 device? I’ve been using a 920 for about 5 months now and I really question the validity of your statements when you say something like:
Lag on windows phone is just hidden because of the super lengthy transitions in between pages

This is what I hate about the Verge. Us WP8 users get called “fanboys” who are apparently disruptive and loud just because we refute basic bullshit like this.
Seriously, stop spreading your damn lies about WP8 just because you have some sort of personal vengeance with Microsoft.

As a Lumia 920 owner, I’m gonna have to call bs on that. Admittedly I was never into Android, but coming from an iPhone4s I’m absolutely loving it. So you keep spewing out that uninformed hate if you want but I’m very happy with the apps available and how they function on WP8.
