That functionality was not part of the Awesomebar in FF3’s launch in 2008. It was added later. The Awesomebar in FF3’s launch just did auto-complete and would search through bookmarks and tags.

Yeah, definitely not, although his point about Sun is true: Sun would not have sued Google for this even if they did infringe.

For anybody who has complained about patent law in the last 5-years, you should be pleased with this decision. The conundrum comes, though, in that many people who have complained about patent law in the last 5 years also complain about Google or some other companies just for the fact that they are profitable. WORLDS COLLIDING.

What does Citizens United have to do with any of this? And given that both Oracle and Google are corporations, even if Citizens United was relevant in any way, how would that ruling possibly give any indication about whether Supreme Court would see this case — which, by the way, is often not even determined by the Justices (not “supremes,” that’s an R&B group) themselves.

Dreamweaver 5.5 is much better than 4.0, if just for speed alone. But… DW is still DW. It’s got a bunch of floating tabs that are pretty much useless, the interface is still clunky, it’s still best used as a text editor… the FTP is still slow and horrible with default settings. Pretty much all of the time I don’t know why I even use it.

It’s not that much better than what FireFox does now, but they beat FireFox to the punch on this, while FF was still catering to the “Browser Plugin” crowd for those features. When the Omnibox debuted for Chrome, it was a major game changer for Browser UI’s that were getting more and more clunky, with “add-in” functionality instead of built-in. FireFox has caught up, although the ‘awesomebar’ was a lame knockoff, and it took them 2 years to really catch up. This is pretty standard for FireFox now, with them just catching up to Chrome’s update model; not needing to restart when installing new (or removing) plugins/extensions; Having extensions still work after updates, etc.

A good friend of mine was Director of Finance at HP in Massachusetts and was laid off a month ago. He’s got 30-years of Financial experience working w/ HP (first with Digital, then Compaq, then HP, as they all were bought/merged). Anybody in the Boston / Central MA area got any leads for HP-like companies that need a super experienced, high level finance guy?

While this trick is a wiley one from them sheisty Brits… Let’s remember, China flattened entire villages, silenced dissidents by putting them in jail, and shut down public networks for years to win their last bid.
So, a bit of traffic light manipulation really ain’t all that bad.

While your comment is intended as snark because lol Great Britain vs. England vs. UK mistake, saying “Britain won the 2012 olympic bid” is actually accurate because a few 2012 Olympic events are being held in Wales and Scotland.
Also I’m sure you’ve written or said “America” when you should more specifically say “The United States,” so please spare us protestations to colloquialisms. :)

Agreed. I’d pay money for just Photoshop, DW, and illustrator. Right now, the $50/mo — while an attractive option — is a little too steep for me to jump on. For $25/mo for those 3 products… I’d buy it now.

I think that the strongest argument against Aereo is that they’re retransmitting content without licensing it. I don’t care about the other arguments, that just seems of very spurious legality. I think that if the Cable companies weren’t the complainers, then nobody would be defending this.

I think that this is a natural development of the Facebook IPO. There is a lot of pressure from potential investors on Facebook to find alternative sources of revenue, as it relies almost entirely on advertising. Promoted posts is a good idea from this perspective.
Personally, I think that it could be really useful in — as someone else mentioned — promoting fundraisers, specific public facing parties, etc. I could also see it being really useful if used properly for businesses / pages.

Cmon Verge, don’t give attention to Gawkers incessant forays into social & global issues, topics that its writers are so embarrassingly ignorant of that it hurts. Does Modern Warfare glorify black operations – probably, like how Madden glorifies touchdowns, but their articles fall to pieces when they jump into social & political commentary… Which happens immediately in this case.
