some, but not significantly. really, there is no good alternative to skype.
as for tumblr: I do not see any reason anyone would leave just because yahoo bought them. everything is a speculation. it’s possible that some people who wanted to start a blog and have been deciding between WP and tumblr favoured WP. but that is not a real migration.
in the end it is all about the product – WP is good, tumblr is good, but they are different. as long as tumblr is good enough, it would be vital enough. period. if yahoo sticks 1000 ads all over the page, then it might be dead. if yahoo pumps millions in the company, then it might be even better than now.
right now I do not see any point of worrying. it might end up good, bad, or neither of those

google is closing the window rapidly and in a few years it will be basically unbeatable in all the key products as clearly, the data pile they are operating with is enormous. yahoo should get rid of all the products they are competing with google, or at least put to rest and focus solely on the content. a strategic partnership with twitter could be very important to build the internet era content-news giant

I share the skepticism, but I think yahoo is now more focused in approach to be THE content provider. I think the goal is long term and in the first phase, they need to acquire all these companies and then figure out how to put the picture together. for the consumer, I think the real change will be only visible in a few years.
but yeah, mayer was definitely not the most exciting person at google

it’s true that ford has some of this cool nonchalance that selleck does not have. but I would not trash him. he is a very charismatic guy and maybe one mayor movie role would not let the audience to associate him with the magnum character that much. I mean, he could have made a different indy, but still a good indy.
ford is not that great of an actor btw, so I guess many more actors would have been good in indiana jones as well. and the movies are not only about the character, it’s not some psychological drama that requires some uber-actor. the script plays the major role there.
all in all, I guess selleck could have been just as good indiana as ford, and I guess spielberg/lucas agree as well, as they wanted him in the first place.

just make the mailbox a default app and you save months of work. I know the app has some flaws, but basically…it’s all I need right now and the mail app is so behind, I guess even a mayor overhaul would only get it on par. just like with the notifications, which are still way behind android.

you probably dont wear glasses:) to me, playing with my frame is pretty natural and from the UI point of view, it is more natural to actually control the body of the device than remotely. not to mention functionality. you can forget the pad. you can loose it. you have to charge it. just another set of things to do. with portable devices, there is one rule – they should come in as few separate parts as possible. no wonder headphones with cord are way more popular than bluetooth.
I find the integrated touchpad quite ingenious, as it allows a lot of functionality and it’s flexibility (optional gestures in future). and it also looks better.
I guess there will be some kind of remote app anyways, so…

hey, I still use my iPhone 3gs, runnig the latest iOS. works like a charm. I hate to think 4 year old devices are considered “prehistoric”. Since, I have had the urge to buy a new one, but because I have moved a lot internationally over the last years, I could not pick a 2-year plan, so I was stuck with it. but I still like it, it works, battery life is still good.

my first and best looking ipod I have ever had. my most favourite, as well. the simplicity is awesome. no displays to have to look at, no cables. just put your playlist and go. and doubled as a usb stick
shame it does not work anymore

well, iTunes used to be a pretty good music library/player, somewhere back in 2005. I think many people who have purchased music for thousands of dollars over the years would not just give up on their libraries and are basically stuck to using it. but of course, since iOS5, most of them are probably using iPhone / iPad for music playback.
the desktop iTunes is a prehistoric piece by now and I have no use for it. I can access my library from spotify

I wish! but probably not. apple uses colorful graphic design quite often
still, some of my personal remarks:
the invitation looks good. but I interpret the message in a different way. the invitation is not conceptually different from the previous ones, especially the last one. abstracted app icons in various positions, stacked. the message is not there. what stroke me was the substantially higher quality of the design, comparing to previous ones. the main message is simple. yes we all know Ive loves flat design. what designer does not. but to me, this design is about the quality. it is saying " from now on, we will care about the UI in the same level of detail and possible perfection as we care about the industrial design"
it is just better executed, it looks like something that went through a process of careful color and shade choice.
now to the design: it is very late 90s-early 2000s. look at karim rashid, marc newson. iMac. I could only speculate the new direction will be simple and flat, but sill somehow vibrant and fresh, something like the original iMac was. not childlish skeumorphic pseudo-friendly, but more mature kind of friendly.
Don’t get wrong, Ive is not designing this, graphic design is very different from product design. but he is very capable of hiring very great people and steer the whole process. actually, he probably has the power to get the best graphic team to do something much better than just a nice design.time will tell. but I do not expect anything substantially different, like live-tile OS, the changes will be more superficial, but still substantial in a way how the whole system is experienced.

to me it seems like apple is nowhere close to a declining company, but they are already acting like one.
being the number one company is usually a blessing and a curse. it is a great opportunity to act like an underdog and take over the industry, while it is very difficult to sustain the top position. I believe the shareholders and the management are now more obsessed with sustaining the top position rather than actually doing something that got them there – being smart, bold and offensive. now they are just very very very defensive.
why are iphone sales stalling? we know it, journalists know it, apple knows it, but has been dead frozen. iOS.
