I’d pick up the i7 256GB SSD variant with the Intel IGP in an instant if this had a Thunderbolt connector. Then I wouldn’t feel the need to refresh my aging desktop.

+1 on the resolution point… Only if you’re going to be sitting closer than 4-5 ft. of your tv will you be able to tell a difference at that size.
So if price is truly your “main factor,” getting 720p won’t be that big of a compromise

Is this going to be running the AOSP version of Android, or will it include Google Apps as well?

Definitely going to focus on the desktop hardware for now. I’ve been looking for two more Samsung 245BWs to match the one I have. I know it’s not IPS or anything like that, but definitely one of the brightest 24" monitors I’ve seen at 400 cd/m^2. I think that’s why if you still find them online, they’re at basically the same price I bought it for in 2007, which was almost $500.
Also, I hope anyone who read that knows that my post was written very tongue-in-cheek, cause I definitely don’t call that THE BEAST haha

Can I suggest a small investment (compared to the number of phones you lost) of $5.30 to buy PhoneLocator Pro by RVO from the Google Play Market (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.rvo.plpro)?
You can send custom text commands to the phone that will allow you to ring it if it’s lost (even if it’s on silent), and turn on GPS to send location coordinates to a predefined email address.
When a thief gets a hold of it, you can lock the device using SMS, and even if they take your SIM out so you can’t call it, the program will automatically lock your phone since the SIM is unregistered with the program. Furthermore, you can obtain recent call logs as well as remotely take pictures with the front facing camera, and remotely wipe the device.
You can even hide the app from the app launcher (without requiring a custom launcher/disabling the app) so that the only way the thief would ever know you have the program is if they saw it in your Settings→Apps. Even then, they can’t uninstall the application unless they know the administrator password to the app.
I got this app a long time ago, and it puts my mind at ease, especially since I just got an unlocked Galaxy Nexus… never would want to lose this baby.

Wow, so I did this build in the fall of 2007, and I’m so glad I found this thread, cause practically everyone here has a bad/ss system except me. This was all the validation I needed to go ahead and take the dive for a major upgrade, thanks!
