It’s an HBO situation with NFL, NBA, MLB, only they aren’t quite as far along with their HBO Go equivalents, and have different and even more complicated relationships with cable companies and OTA broadcasters. But when, like HBO, the balances of power shift and they don’t need the old guard anymore, expect them to build out VOD networks on their own terms rather than licensing streams to Netflix.
