Would be interesting to see what it’d look like if you took business users out of the equation, who are pretty much stuck with IE for liability reasons.

Why no, it’s MAGIC! I’d have never had the idea, you know, it is only completely obvious to any idiot wo would ever try to make a phone with direct (i.e. touch) input.

“Microsoft was able to steal from the Mac and become successful… "
You do realize that all of that was already stolen from PARC, don’t you? That should be basic knowledge by now. Apple themselves don’t even dispute that. Xerox came up with those ideas.

All of these cases contradict everything you learn in basic IP law classes, but I think that the practice and the theory behind it diverge a lot in this case. Which is why IMHO IP law should be up for a major overhaul, with patent offices bothering to check whether something is actually novel and non-obvious to people familiar with the matter. I do not think these kinds of links (same goes for the ones Moto holds against Apple – but Moto did not start the shitstorm) and simplistic designs should be patentable in the first place. If you go in absolutely minimalist with a certain kind of device an material, you cannot patent that look. Otherwise, could someone have patented the Sedan shape for a car?

A very good start. You now must rub in the snake oil three times per day, or it will stop working for the sound.

If you do not stop this senseless Samsung bashing and one-sided reporting, I will switch back to Engadget. At least they had a neutral opinion on the phone and did not resort to ignoring all strong points, writing hate-editorials, pulling videos out of context and now spend days searching the internet just to find some negative marketing bits from somewhere around the world.
The videos were made for the local markets, where they were NOT considered weird. There are tons of ‘weird’ commercials in all kinds of markets. If I lived in a country where half the commercials are songs about websites showing you your credit scores (HELLO NEW YORK!), I would be careful about pointing fingers.

I REALLY do not understand how that purely optical effect was patentable in the first place. I will patent painting cars in color.

Apple usually only copies existing things and improves them through superior execution. Samsung introduced plenty of its own features here, it is not just copying – at least not more than Apple. Android had a Siri-Like app like that for a long time, which is what they are improving on – they do not use fake conversations or anything, and the S-Talk thing is not their standout feature either – even though it is not even Beta anymore.
