Sorry, in answer to your question, I take public transit because it’s generally reliable and I can socialise after work without having to worry about drink driving etc.
When not reliable there are other routes to take
Regarding the personal contact thing, is it really an issue? I’ve met some really nice people on the tube.
I live in London and use public transport (nearly*) exclusively, it costs me roughly £36 a week to travel wherever I want to go within Zones 1 -3…
London is divided into ‘travel zones’ for the use of public transport. Zone 1 is central London, Zone 6 is way out in the suburbs. I live in Zone 3 and it takes me half an hour to get to work. My colleague lives in Zone 5 and it takes her over an hour.
The further you live out of Zone 1 the more it costs. If you can avoid Zone 1, you’ll save cash easily, because it costs more to travel to Zone 1.
I could easily save money by getting a ticket for a week that simply went from home to work, but I have friends all over town, so with one single payment I can pretty much get anywhere by any means – bus. tube, train.
I would have to pay extra for a bicycle hire, but you’ll never get me on a bicycle.
I will not buy an Oyster card because of tracking. It’s no ones business where I go.
the rest of the time I ride my trusty old Triumph (and it’s older than me – I’m 46)
