Well, still, it’s legacy. Older apps. older architecture, older business models. Everyone knows the PC is still around, will still sell billions and there are still billions of dollars to be made. But unless there is a great comeback, it’s a legacy technology, i.e. it is the state of the art of a previous era.
Once the great desktop monopoly company/standard calls the desktop ‘legacy’, then it’s legacy and there’s no denying that. That doesn’t mean PCs are a typewriter or film camera, i.e. a useless anachronism for hobbyists and collectors, it just means it’s (slightly) older and less relevant.
Everyone always talks about the great preponderance of x86/Windows software, but that software library is increasingly out of date and trailing edge. Not that it isn’t productive or that all that software is irrelevant, but in the greater landscape, this is what is happening. Software utility is completely subjective, so that while some people think Photoshop is ‘obviously’ better than, say, Instagram, in the realilty of the market, Instagram is better to millions of more people. That’s a specific example of a broader trend.
You’re right, ‘People’ have not stopped using PCs, but some people have and some people growing up will never use them now. They’re not an essential form factor like a TV or a phone. PCs are very close, but not quite that essential to modern life.

I think we’re getting a little ahead of ourselves. AMD’s new arch is intriguing and they do have the consoles to keep them going – if the consoles can keep going. I’d like to see xbox move to be the surface desktop pc, for example. Now that ps4 and xbox are both x86 based, there’s nothing keeping them out of that market. There’s a lot of life profit left in the desktop market, but it’s a question of how those profits will be divided up. On a superficial level, we’d expect the biggest players to survive, but in a multi-player model, it’s a questions of alignments and alliances. MS would prefer a smaller company than Intel to deal with, and they have pole position in the business markets.
And then there’s mobile x86. If Intel cracks that market, AMD won’t be far behind, probably with an alliance with another company.
For the time being, AMD has the most opportunity of any of the chip companies and the most risk. They’ll need to execute and get lucky to survive as an independent.

With so many holes, who needs a case? It’s really just an amd motherboard with a black base to plug it into.

They were more mainstream in Japan, but that’s where people were willing to pay extra.
Why did MS do away with the xbox skins? It’s sad, really. I guess for living room devices, people are less adventurous with style.

That was a cool virtual tour. The Russian bio research island is frightening, though.
Which makes me wonder, will it be the setting for the next bioshock game or the next James Bond movie?

Totally agree. As Bill Parcells would say, ‘You are your record’.
If people say they aren’t entertained, then they aren’t entertained. This can’t get any more direct or democratic.

I agree, this is far better than an S4. It’s less derivative, and the plastic materials make sense in a rugged phone.
A plastic Samsung that makes sense!

I agree 100%. This type of thing is a better fit for a kiddy company like Nintendo or the Skylanders group. Esp. since Valve is still software-only.

On that basis, shouldn’t it be implemented as an app on the xbox? I tried it a few times, but it never worked well. Maybe that was just the old xbox, though.

Let’s not generalize, I’ve had a dell consumer pc for years and it was fine. You can buy the enterprise stuff and get a lemon, these things are anecdotal.
