pssst – I actually agree with you about the big government part and taxes, I’m just not sure the IRS thing really went all the way up the chain of command.

“Altruistic”?! I think that’s exactly the opposite of what we’re saying. Altruism has nothing to do with this. Google is a for-profit business with a fiduciary to shareholders and stake holders to do what they feel will maximize their profits. If they believe that allowing MS to build this YouTube app is not in their best interest, they are duty-bound to do everything in their legal power to shut it down.

How is this “trying to screw Microsoft and its customers”? If Microsoft updates the app to meet the YouTube TOS, Google will let it ride. It’s not like they’re saying, “under no circumstance can you build a YouTube app.”

Um, because there aren’t enough users to make it worth their development time and costs. Fair has nothing to do with this, it’s about profit.

Add this to the IRS-Tea Party scandal and you’ve got the beginnings of a great week for the far-right conspiracy theorists.

Seems like a bit of an escalation, but I think I can get on board. Making the phones valueless, as the article suggests, isn’t going far enough . . . let’s make them downright dangerous.

I know they would lose their ms funding, but I really wish they would put this hardware out with Android (stock, while you’re at it). I have nothing against WP, I’ve simply chosen Google. WP hasn’t been a real victory for them, so what would they have to lose by throwing down some Android love?

I really don’t get all the fuss. I’m running 8 on a three year old Samsung laptop with decidedly mid-range specs (definitely no touch-screen) and after a few days getting used to it, I’ve had no complaints. Admittedly, I don’t use any of the whatever the hell I’m supposed to call metro apps, but I now prefer 8 to 7. I won’t use an option that would give me back the start button, I prefer the start screen.
I know no one cares, but with all the bitching and moaning, I figure the forums can use a little balance. I hope Microsoft keeps moving forward, not back.

As an online/bricks and mortar retailer, this doesn’t make me happy. In essence this is taxation without representation. A sales tax in a locale where I have a physical location makes sense. Those funds are used to fund projects that come back and enhance my ability to do business. Local roads, police, etc. I become a tax collector for other states where those funds are going to benefit my competitors in that locale.
