Not true at all. Have you ever used a touch screen laptop? It’s actually not tiring to reach up and touch when a) it’s barely raising your arm and b) when you can easily rest your elbow on the table. If the laptop is on your lap, then it’s even more natural.
In fact, a touch screen makes everything way more enjoyable because you don’t have to deal with the tedious task of using a touchpad (or a mouse for that matter). Rather than finding the cursor and point it where you want to click, you just reach out and touch it with your finger.
And by the way, my main experience with this is no with a W8 device, but with my Transformer (Android), so this isn’t exclusive to W8 (though I do very strongly prefer W8 to Android)

Windows 8 works fine without a touch screen, but that doesn’t change the fact that a touchscreen makes the experience substantially better.
Whether or not it’s the “best” hardware that can run Windows, which I do not think it is because there is tons of amazing hardware running W8, the lack of a touch screen on an OS that is tailored for touch screen use, even if it works without one fine, knocks the MB down a few points for W8..

Why would you think that MS would have low stock numbers for one of their biggest and best-selling products?
That survey is by Amazon Video Games, so most of the voters are probably relatively serious gamers, who will be more inclined to get a PS4 now due to the DRM shit.
And since these gamers are also more likely to dismiss the Kinect as a “gimmick” because it doesn’t necessarily contribute to hardcore games, the fact that the PS4 is cheaper (of course missing the camera, which is a huge selling point for the XB1) would make it more appealing.
In other words, that survey means very little. And either way, I was responding to your statement that “nobody will have a Kinect because everybody will have a PS4,” which is retarded because the two consoles will likely be head-to-head in the consumer space. The idea that the XB1 is “DOA” is a ridiculous overreaction.

It’s always nice to see Tom review MS products, especially Windows Phone. Great review and it’s nice to see MS products get the benefit of the doubt score-wise (7.9 vs. 8.1) is a big difference psychologically.

First of all, I don’t think it’s fair right now to call 3D a “passing fad.” Just look. It might pass, but you certainly can’t draw that conclusion now.
Second of all, the Wii was huge for a while and the exercise-related games were and are a big deal, especially for casual gamers, who are by far the largest potential market for consoles.
Third of all, we’re already seeing early iterations of what will eventually be revolutionary to how we all interact with everything in our living room. The Kinect is revolutionary technology and what it (or comparable alternatives) allows for is and will be revolutionary.

Obviously it’s relative… that doesn’t change the fact that many people, seemingly regardless of their socio-economic status, are able to find $500 for a big portable media player, so I would think that those same people or similar people would have $500 for an all-in-one living room entertainment system.
Anyway, $100 is really not that much any more considering inflation as well as the fact that people seem more and more willing to invest a lot of money into smartphones, TVs, computers, etc nowadays relative to what they were probably willing to invest 15 years ago. If someone can afford $400, then they can most likely afford $500. And if they can’t afford $500, they probably shouldn’t be spending the $400 to begin with.
