It’s certainly a more subtle way of integrating ads. Nice idea! I’ve got the paid version but I’ve still seen Doritos and KFC (although they may have been drawings sent from people with the free version). It didn’t really stick out to me as being weird. It doesn’t seem any different than having characters from films in the app, which can be quite tough if you’ve not seen it. Just as long as some obscure company doesn’t jump in and get people to draw their logo which nobody knows.
