Protip: don’t ever listen to anyone who talks about the placebo effect like its a real life physical effect. Its a purely statistical, experimental error. Pills are not magical. The fact that even doctors don’t understand this is an excellent reason to lose sleep.

I would love a an app/widget that pops up a text box, then lets me send that text to whatever app I want via the share API. Basically, a widget that does this, letting you enter text into your phone without having to decide what it is first. Simple, but incredibly useful. I’d put it on my central homescreen (this would be important enough to supplant my superfluous clock) and I’d probably pay a couple dollars for it if it was holo.

I remember hearing about a Drive backup/sync api recently, was that early leak of this or something else?

Koush’s favorite pictures of the year were pictures of his dog that he took with outdoors his Gnex, so you might be on to a pattern.

Aren’t there enough of those videos out there? I’m pretty sure everything that can be filmed on a table while someone behind the camera talks has been done.
That said, I know Droid-life uses a phone (currently a GS3, but its usually just whichever phone Kellen has and isn’t filming about) on a tripod and they get decent results. They use phones because SLR’s tend to block you from seeing and reaching the thing you’re talking about.

You can find a panasonic GX-1 on ebay/amazon for under $300, and it has similar hacks to the GH2, if you’re after ridiculously good video. Its a great camera, I can definitely tell that I am the limiting factor in the quality of video and stills I’m getting out of it. There are some seriously great lenses for micro 4/3, all of which focus faster than you can actually perceive, along with every manual focus lens ever made (which is oodles of fun if you aren’t counting on reliable, ‘serious’ results). Its small enough that I bring it with me everywhere, along with a couple extra lenses. Its a camera that you can grow into.

On a fresh install, a Nexus S with Jellybean is exactly as fast and usable as a galaxy nexus with Jellybean. I have both of them. If it doesn’t come with the upgrade, you might want to do a wipe before you set it up. Games and such obviously wont’ be as good, but all the basic stuff is buttery. Ignore the haters and go for it.

Meh. I believe that click sounds and vibrations are a holdover from when computers/phones were too slow to actually respond. I find that letters popping up over the keyboard and in the box is plenty of ‘feedback’ for me.

I don’t thnk there’s anythign wrong with playing to the strengths of the two input methods. Using an ipad with a keyboard and mouse doesn’t cut it for power users in exactly the same way that win7 tablets didn’t cut it for couch users. They can have a unified design, but if they think a completely unified UX is the way forward, they’re idiots.

Search is a lot faster on win7, partially because your entire display doesn’t vomit in your face when you start searching and partially, because it searches everything at once rather than waiting for you to click on the category you want to search in. I search for specific files multiple times per day, win7 shows me a list of files if there’s no program while win8 tells me that no apps match my search until I click the tab for files and wait for it to populate. Its slower, and distracts you while also requiring you to bounce between your mouse and keyboard.

It looks a little like its taken in the same holocaust memorial as the other photo earlier in the thread, which makes me feel weird about how fun her expression and the colours make this shot. Thats mostly just a matter of your timing posting it though…

The lack of emotion and the crop on his face make me wonder how this shot would’ve been if you were a little to your right and shot slightly tighter so it was more of her face and his suit. I like it a lot though

This is definitely the sort of photo that can get away with B&W or even sepia and a bit of grain to add to the civil war vibe

I have a sneaking suspicion that Microsoft will do the same thing apple has been sort of doing with lion. They’ve been slowly changing their desktop apps to be identical to ipad apps with windows around them. Metro isn’t necesarily bad, its just kind of dumb to stretch an app made for 10" tablets across a 13" or 15" display. Putting metro apps into traditional windows and getting rid of borders on maximized apps would accomplish Microsofts goal of stapling their tablet ecosystem to their laptop/desktop ecosystem without completely breaking computers. I think you’re kind of on the right track, but the fact that microsoft hasn’t done anything like this even in leaked versions of Blue indicates that they don’t see the path forward as clearly as literally everyone else.

Nexus 7 remains my favorite gadget object ever. In the last year, I’ve bought a macbook air, record player (and a bunch of records) and a totally dope mirrorless camera. I use and love my nexus 7 more than any of them. It runs even better than day 1, but I’ve updated to 4.2.2 (not sure if that counts as changing the ROM) and reset once to detatch a defunct gmail account. I’m normally a custom ROM guy, but I switched back to stock after only a few minutes. Nobody should buy one right now, we’re probably a month away from a new one, but in a month, if you buy one of the used ones that is sure to flood ebay/craigslist or the discount rack at best buy, you probably won’t regret it. This is a seriously bomb-ass gadget.
