Interesting article- mainly for the illustrations. In fact, Europe was way ahead of America. By 1933 the Germans were transmitting fully-electronic TV, the British had the first commercial service in 1936. and the French had high-definition TV in 1949. The German PAL colour system was far superior to the American NTSC.

Europe barely exists for American nerds. The Verge is good but around half of it is irrelevant for us Europeans.

I supported Diaspora in the early days but I just don’t think they are going to make it. They are too small and clueless about marketing. However, anything is better than Facebook.

Surely somebody will be clever enough to make a filter that removes such ads.
