Don’t use that half of Windows 8 on your desktop. I don’t and it works better than 7 did. Did all you Windows 8 whiners actually use it? There’s no reason to force yourself into metro if you’re on a desktop.

iOS was garbage on the first release. Sure it was smooth, but it didn’t do shit.
No third party application support, no MMS, no GPS, no bluetooth audio (A2DP). It was basically a dumbphone OS.

Windows 8 works fine.

The first time. Then you just select the default app on the pop up to be a desktop program. Did you really use Windows 8 for more than a few minutes?

I just love micromanaging my desktop OS. /s

It’s not micromanagement. It asks you which program you want to use by default the first time you open a certain type of file and whenever you install a new program that can handle that type of file.

Android even does this, no one whines about that.
