I would say drop the camera’s height a bit and get the shutter plane a little more perpendicular to accentuate the height of the red wall and capture the subjects in the alley at a mid-point instead of eye-level. I like the results when dropping a few inches below the normal eye level to accentuate the surroundings in a view not normally taken or give a portrait a more unique feel. Put the subject on a stage as it were…

We have had two major revisions since the release of the 920 and so many app and Nokia app updates that it is nearly a weekly thing where we get new features or enhancements. It is moving forward and Nokia is pushing the hardest.
But all this crap about apps is really getting old. We will shortly have two Instagram third party apps, one being a full implementation allowing for registration and uploads. Then what? The OS works. The Apps are still coming and the platform is growing. Blue is going to step things up further.
If MS and Nokia didn’t add a single update or app for the duration of my contract, I’d be fine. The phone does what I need it to do and then some. I get the feeling most people just want new apps to have something to show their friends the cool new app and then never use again.

Odd, battery life is getting better for me with every update. I get two days with two active sync accounts, GPS, NFC and Bluetooth enabled. Maybe you are due for a hard reset? Pretty quick process now with the account back up…

Biggest reason I use bing is that when finding links for aticles I am writing, I can right-click and copy the link and it is the link. Do that with Google, tracking data link. #bigbrotherhassle

I shot Two Door Cinema Club a few months back, expected the sea of phones from the kids. Delighted to report that barely any popped up. That was a great crowd living in the moment. Just varies, but I seem to notice the buzz bands, the band that blows up but is still playing in a smaller venue usually creates the highest number of offenders. They are always busy tweeting and vining to brag about being at a show they aren’t paying attention to; it was bad at that Phoenix taping. You are one of around two thousand seeing a band that headlines festivals record a TV show and you are checking basketball scores? WTF.

Our site has been taking up the fight for show etiquette. People even tried to record video at an Austin City Limits taping for Pheonix. The Crystal Castles show was the absolute worst. So yeas, Google Glass is more acceptable, but please people, stop watching the show through your damn phone.

I tend to try to over expose and have the lighting elements draw the eye to the subject. Plenty of foot-zooming/human bipod adjustments to line things up. Maybe bump up the ISO to get more atmospheric fill?
Foals recenlty played here, almost entirely backlit. Two small samples for you to consider.

100mm f2.8 1/200 ISO 4000

28mm F2.2 1/160 ISO 4000
With out the fill provided by the higher ISO, the subjects would be silhouettes. Something to try next time you have backlighting…

Thanks. I don’t think the guy in the glasses realized what was going on behind him until he saw my camera pointing at the subject, he turned and I took another shot getting that moment. Guess it makes the case for interaction with the subject, not just lurking.

Older. D700 and D3, no compelling reason to upgrade, not changing glass. I figure when the D700 dies, I’ll sell the D3 and go to the newer controls of the D4 and D600, buying both used of course.

Reaction from a non-portrait guy…
Did you sharpen the eyes/lashes/hair, but soften the face? Maybe ease out of the blur on the cheeks and give it a bit more feel of her face being the focus of the shot via natural skin texture? Either that or she has perfect skin (replicant?)

D700 has far more exposure points. The “door” for the USB and video ports is not nearly as secure, nor is the memory door. The D3 is superior to the D700 and D300 which are miles ahead of the consumer Nikons. Having both, using both in bad weather, I will continue to tape shut my D700’s port cover and the pop up flash as friends with the same cameras have had issues with heavy rain with the D700 but not the D3.
Mist is easy, rain is not. Mist made me nervous with the D90, rain makes me nervous with the D700, lightning makes me nervous with the D3, heh.

Gaskets, internal focus and zoom, humidity resistance, resistance to exposure over a long period of time, etc. You can rinse jsut about any camera, but leaving it there? Not good, that is the difference.
I would have no reservations standing in the rain with my D3 and 70-200. D700? Not so much, port covers are far less robust then those on the D3, never mind the pop-up flash (which I usually have gaffer-taped down anyway.
