Not necessarily. The Blackberry may not have been first but it was a major force in popularizing that format just like the iPhone was not first (e.g. LG Prada) but it was a major force in legitimizing the “just a touch screen” aesthetic.

I think it’s still a legitimate argument that Google was copying the Blackberry. It may be less convincing to you but it’s not an absurd argument to make.

Yes, the LG Prada clearly was a major influence on all future phone designs and it’s runaway success insured its continued relevance! ;)

Is the comparison somehow invalid if the Blackberry wasn’t the first phone to have that layout? Does the google phone suddenly NOT look like a blackberry?
