So if you are able to express yourself with your Lumia and B&O television than those products do “leave room for your self-expression.”
Saying that the
I think of the “gray” of Apple products (clearly you’re not talking about the iPhone, then…) as the neutral canvas so that your screen shines. There’s a really good reason that Lightroom or Photoshop or other design apps aggressively pursue neutrally colored interfaces. The focus is on the CONTENT (or the “user’s self expression”) instead of the gadget around it.
To sum it up, it seems like your critique is more of the perceived failure of Apple products to live up to that principle, rather than a denial of that principle. You’re affirming it, at least the way your comment is written above.

I’d love to hear an honest critique of his principles. They seem like good ideas to me. That’s not a claim that he is the beginning and end of design and I doubt he’d be so pompous as that.

Are you expecting Apple to call their 6th iPhone the “iPhone 5”?
My guess is they will follow the iPad’s lead and just call it “the new iPhone”

iTunes match upgraded over 3000 of my songs to 256kbps AAC for $25. Even if I never subscribe again that is a massive spike in my music library quality (even if it is still lossy).

I really doubt this is a scientifically measured, exact “10 minute acclimation period” and more just a general sense that you get used to it quickly.

I fucking hate motion interpolation. I’m open to seeing the Hobbit as it was actually SHOT at 48fps, and isn’t being artificially “smoothed”.

Not necessarily. The Blackberry may not have been first but it was a major force in popularizing that format just like the iPhone was not first (e.g. LG Prada) but it was a major force in legitimizing the “just a touch screen” aesthetic.
I think it’s still a legitimate argument that Google was copying the Blackberry. It may be less convincing to you but it’s not an absurd argument to make.

Yes, the LG Prada clearly was a major influence on all future phone designs and it’s runaway success insured its continued relevance! ;)

Is the comparison somehow invalid if the Blackberry wasn’t the first phone to have that layout? Does the google phone suddenly NOT look like a blackberry?
