Does the phone look better in real life than the press shots? I know this is very subjective, but I’d like to collect some opinions.

I honestly don’t get the appeal of taking a photo with the latest technology and then making it look like it’s from the 60s either. Damn hipsters.

On XDA there are a few cases where people have sent back their phones due to defects like the yellow spot problem. They’ve been refused service simply because their bootloader was unlocked. Also, as mentioned above, relocking it will show “Re-locked” in Hboot instead of “Locked” so HTC will know.

Interesting stuff, especially the fact that the i500 is based on a software defined radio architecture. We could easily see even faster LTE speeds from it later on.

Once the One X gets S-OFF, I’d definitely go for it. It’s just a case of quickly the xda magicians can figure it out. It could be tomorrow, or it could be in a year’s time.

Hboot shows “Re-locked” instead of “Locked” if you do that. Also, you’ve given your serial number to HTC so they know you’ve unlocked it.

Not compatible with my Galaxy S, seriously? It plays Shadowgun fine. And yes, I’m looking at the international one published by EA Nederland BV so it’s not a country thing.

You need an SSD – if I enable auto-login on Windows 7, I can get from the end of POST to Chrome opening my last tabs in around 10-12 seconds on my desktop. Less than 20 seconds for the Lenovo X120e. On top of that, Windows 8 is somehow even faster on both computers.

You can for the AT&T One X with the Snapdragon chip, but not the international One X with Tegra 3. The latter requires an unlocked bootloader and custom recovery before you can flash Superuser on. Someone might find an exploit to do this without unlocking, but the main goal is getting S-OFF.

I’d probably put it down to the media and politics, especially over in the US. Islam is seen as a foreign entity, typically associated with the Middle East/Iran/Pakistan and all the problems there, making it easy to bash by right-wingers (9/11 played the biggest part in this). Judaism is seen as more closely linked to America, especially given its close ties with Israel. Then there’s the powerful Jewish lobby in play, most visible in the anti-defamation league – some would also add the significant representation of Jews in finance. The result is Fox News that whips up anti-Islam fear-mongering while damping down anti-Jewish/anti-Israel sentiment.
As for me, I find it ironic that the three major world religions that are closely related to each other cause so much strife and tension between them.

That was the second scariest part of the article for me (after the photo of thousands of people dressed as clones in a stadium). It’s really creepy that they were so blatant about warning people away from seeking knowledge and understanding.

A Nexus X would be my ideal phone – the specs of the One X, but with no hardware buttons and full S-OFF. I want to upgrade to a One X from my SGS, but I’d need Titanium Backup to transfer my apps with data across to the new phone (I have many games with save data). That requires root on the One X, which in turn (currently) requires an unlocked bootloader for the Tegra 3 One X. That involves going to htcdev.com and completely voiding my warranty, meaning that they’ll refuse any repair or replacement even if the device has a manufacturing defect. That’s an unacceptable situation to me.

The problem isn’t the size of the micro SIM, but the connector interface required for reading from the card. As chip and board sizes have shrunk, the connector gets comparatively larger and larger – it’s now bigger than some SoCs. Cutting down on the space used by the connector means more space for squeezing in a larger battery while maintaining a thin phone.

I agree – Microsoft have definitely made strong efforts to support power users better. They’ve made big improvements in file copying tasks and multi-monitor support. I also like how they’re truly taking advantage of the UEFI standard by integrating Windows more deeply with the computer’s firmware.

I don’t see how you can forget to change up in a manual. The rev counter and engine noise are typically big give-aways that say “change up now!” Though I could understand unintentionally stalling in crawling traffic where you’re riding on the clutch.
