Smart move – the money in modern-day chip development has far more to do with who develops/owns the IP rather than who integrates/builds it. It’s a worthwhile backup plan if Tegra 4 or Project Denver fail to grab a good slice of the market.

It just seems very out-of-character for a Verge review. It’s not even about any perceived Apple bias, the quality is just of a very low standard, like some part-time blogger giving his first impressions as soon as he unboxes his pre-order.

You’re right Don, $499 isn’t ridiculous and you are delivering a lot of value with your console.
Unfortunately, Sony are offering even more value at $399. Value is a relative thing in the realm of technology.

Is it me or was this review VERY short? It all seemed to revolve around the battery life and coffee shop thing. I’d have expected a mention on the following points:
Ah, better wait for AnandTech for a proper review…

Faster connectivity counter-intuitively means better efficiency. With a fast low-latency connection, the radio can perform its task very quickly before racing to sleep, meaning that the average power consumption over time for a given task will be lower.
The iPhone 5/HTC One battery life benchmarks will confirm this for you – both phones get better battery life on LTE vs HSPA+

Wow has the NSA planted shills in the comments sections of the major websites or something? A lot of people here seem far more interested in character assassination than in the fact that the NSA have a warrantless wiretapping system in place.

Twitter must provide its user data to France’s Union of Jewish Students (UEJF) and four other human rights organizations
Why them? If it’s a case of the law being broken, shouldn’t it be the police who receive the data and act upon it rather than a private organisation? This leaves the door wide open for vigilante justice as well as an abuse of confidential data.

Me and plenty others here (as well as tons of websites) can tell you all the nice things about Android that make me prefer it to iOS. Instead, I’ll tell you my current gripes with it. They’re small things in the scheme of things but you’ll probably notice them if you switch from iOS:
Once you get here, take delight in our low price plans without absurd restrictions. I can recommend Three as a good network – they have great DC-HSPA+ coverage on which I can hit 20Mbps (LTE will launch end of this year), they’re the only network with unlimited data plans and at £25/month for the most expensive One Plan they’re also the cheapest.

It’s arguably even more important for laptops than desktops as they’re used from multiple angles and users shouldn’t have to plug in an external monitor just for better contrast and colours. Also, the panels are cheap nowadays and many other manufacturers are finally offering them as standard. A premium device ought to come with premium components.

They’re certainly decent for TNs, but one wouldd expect IPS on a new mid-2013 premium-grade ultrabook especially when the competition have started using IPS panels en masse. I wonder if they’re trying to push people onto the rMBPs…

I didn’t expect retina (even though others like Acer and Asus have managed it) but are those screens IPS? It’s a deal-breaker if they’re not IPS.

The Haswell ULV chips aren’t getting Crystalwell (the 128MB eDRAM for Iris Pro) so I wouldn’t hold out for that in a theoretical rMBA. There will be an ULV part with Iris 5100 graphics (40 EUs, no eDRAM) so that’s possible. Meanwhile I would hope for Iris Pro on the 13" rMBP, with the 15" using any Intel graphics in tandem with a GTX 760/765M.

They conveniently forget that drivers a) drive according to the width and conditions of the road and not just the speed limit and b) have these little devices known as “brakes” and they use them when kids run out into the road.
What I find sadder is the local people in my area who tried to campaign for a 20mph limit on a busy main road. Evidently they swallow the govt’s bullshit whole.
