However, Josh is one of the greatest tech writers in the world and knows his stuff.bq.
Really?did you watch yesterday’s vergecast? Joshua was praising HTC one all through out the show and was thinking that it had a 5 inch screen. When told by Nilay that it just has 4.7 inch screen, Josh admitted his ignorance asking ‘it cant be right,…then why it does it look bigger than S4?’. Hey Josh – that is because with all your prejudice against S4 (calling it crappy, etc) you didn’t even notice that Samsung has achieved a remarkable feat by squeezing in a 5 inch screen in a smaller form factor than GS3.
This guy didn’t know the correct screen size of HTC one, and he strongly calls GS4 crappy phone and HTC one as a ‘marvel’. Who do these guys put their opinions that strongly anyway? Is it because empty vessels make more noise?

I agree. But when its just ‘opinion’ , i would rather put the point not as strongly as David does. ‘Gross to hold’ is so subjective to put that strongly – tens of millions of people disagree with him.
Moreover, his other comments (such as ‘Smart Stay’ is a gimmick/redundant feature as that can be easily achieved by increasing the display timeout) – doesn’t add any credibility to his strong subjective opinions.

Well not really! I am always a person with open mind who wants to be persuaded thru facts. Lets take the example of ‘opinions’ on battery life. David just says ‘battery life is good and takes easily thru the day’ which means nothing to me (this statement can be spinned in whichever way a reviewer wants). Whereas, the reviewer in the above video (see 17:56 on the video), gives an objective comparison on how much battery was consumed by various applications of different phones under very same conditions. This gives me enough data to make up my mind on battery life rather than just ‘gets me thru the day’ rant.

I agree that Anandtech also tends to get some objectivity into the reviews. But I am getting a feel lately that verge reviewers are growing more arrogant with fixated subjective opinions which they try to push on the readers.
I am not even sure of their technical prowess and I tend to think they don’t know what they are talking about. For example, David said ‘smart stay’ functionality is unnecessary and redundant because the same can be easily achieved by increasing the display timeout. Does this make sense? But the guy says this so confidently that he is misleading people who haven’t used the smart stay functionality. Overall I tend to find most of verge guys as bunch of folks with ‘mediocre’ technical knowledge who pretend to know everything and putting on a big show – and that flies because they are articulate and confident.

iphone growth was 88% March 2012 though – declined to 7% March 2013 – nothing seasonal about it other than iphone is saturated and given in to Android
