Specifically in Germany I can literally reach every person I know with WhatsApp and that’s what I’ll be using for the next month or even years.

Or HTC is already working with Google on the Nexus 5? Might be unlikely but not impossible.

They don’t know the specs but they will see the difference between a 4" 800×480 display and a 4.7" 1920×1080 display or a shitty 5 Mp sensor and nice 8 Mp sensor. They won’t say “Gosh, this 1 GHz phone is so much slower than the 1,9 GHz quad core device” but just think the big high end device is better. I think a lot of people would appreciate a high end 4.3" device.

32 GB on this device is quite reasonable since the 16 GB version only has 8 GB of free space. While no app2sd is possible and nice games easily exceed 1 GB, that’s not very much.

Wait some more weeks and there will be easy solutions for both phones. Most root tutorials require less than 30 minutes of your life time, which shouldn’t be too much if you’re considering root access as a main reason for your whole phone decision.

I’m so happy that I don’t live in your country. Here in Europe we don’t even need to discuss with your moronic ideology.

Basically there are a bunch of issues why android lacks so hard on energy efficiency. I’m not an expert but here’s what I can say about that. First of all, and that’s hardly changeable, android is designed to fit to hundreds of different devices since iOS is extremely optimized for less than 10 devices, all distributed by Apple itself. The control of both hardware and software is a huge advantage which gives very good optimization and efficieny. On the other hand, android itself is still bad in handling the radio signals of all kinds. Battery drain caused by wifi, Bluetooth, GPS, nfc and other radios is rather high on android. I have no idea how iOS handles those in detail but you don’t really loose a lot of battery life leaving all radios like Bluetooth and wifi on all the time. Especially project butter is a big trade off when you look at it from an efficency perspective. The nexus 4 uses a hotplug driver called mpdecision, which also handles the processor’s frequencies. If you just touch the screen the minimum frequency gets locked to 1 gigahertz I order to provide a smooth and fluent user experience. Blatantly this is very bad for the energy consumption and causes unnecessarily high cpu usage. I don’t think that’s the right way to increase the smoothness of android. I lot of custom kernel developers removed and fixed this problem which increases battery life substantially. Additionally android, or more precisely the default governor, just jumps between min and max frequency. It does not really fit usage patterns and often uses higher frequencies than it needs to. Another issue is the high idle drain. There are a lot of rogue apps which cause plenty of wakelocks, preventing the processor from deep sleep states when the screen is of. It’s hard to fix that issue since it would restrict the background abilities which make android so good in doing multiple tasks. Nevertheless there needs to be a lot of improvement. One of the easiest solutions would be to force apps to use the built in push service of android. Almost every app uses its own service which is obviously not very efficient for the system as a whole. Basically I could continue this list for a while but I’m kind of lazy typing such long texts on my phone and I hope this gave you a brief overview about the problems on android regarding its lack of energy efficiency and why the nexus 4 has a disappointing battery life. Lastly, sorry for me English, it’s not my first language.
