the internet was shaping me a little too much
What the heck does that even mean?
To Paul, who’s spent his entire adult life on the internet, I suspect he was alluding to the fact that his life was being defined by the lulz and gifs, the waking hours spent checking notifications, the tweets, the links, the upvotes, the comments, and so on. His life was becoming simply a reaction to what the internet was providing him.
In my opinion, there’s a certain immaturity in those who can’t grasp the concept of Paul “leaving the internet”. The internet is a Swiss Army Knife. Armed with communication, information, social platforms, shopping, productivity tools, etc, the internet has the upper hand on the alternative. Opposed to the internet is all the old stand-bys: Phone calls, libraries, printing photos to share, reading a newspaper, buying things in a store, or typing your report to print and mail. These are all things we used to do before the onset of online unification of services.
The internet is a good thing. The internet is a bad thing. Why would someone subject themselves to this? Paul is trying to find where the balance lays.

Scroll through these comments I’ve noticed two things.
1) people put too much faith in Facebook & it’s offerings
2) cr99 is in love with Facebook, and will most likely reply to every comment in this thread.

I just remembered my wife downloaded Pixlr-o-matic by Autodesk to our Xoom last year and it was awesome. I’m going to grab that for my Nexus One and maybe I’ll do a little review. To be honest, this Facebook inhalation of mobile companies is getting a bit ridiculous.

This happened to a production I was working on two years ago. Some sticky-fingered knob changed the paths to our networked drives and render farm nodes to something that didn’t exist. The entire production lost references to all our assets and everything that rendered (while it went unnoticed) went into limbo and was never retrieved. Luckily we only lost two days of work, but something so simple can be disastrous to a production.

Is there a reason to have all your social network URL’s on your business card? I find website and email to be sufficient enough.

Removing data from my phone has been the catalyst to destroying this type of behaviour from my usual habits. My phone rarely makes an appearance. It usually sits sleeved inside my bag. I see all the people around me nose deep in their screens, headphones plugged in, completely isolated from the outside world. It’s fine for me though. Being the opposite of Paul, I appreciate the lack of conversation. Conversation can be exhausting.

You know, I was truly rooting for Samsung here. The gadget community hype was enormous; they certainly had everyone on the edge of their seat. However, the reveal was laden with marketing speak, presented like a heartless reading of a spec-sheet, with no regard toward design and function. They simple pulled the phone from a pocket, said “here it is, look at how quick the camera takes photos, how you can speak into the phone to make an appointment..” and so on.
There was no care put into the presentation, just as there was no care put into the design. They claim they were inspired by nature, but that crock of shit clearly came from the mouths of marketing executives. Instead of presenting it as it was, they attempted to full on indulge themselves in a swirling cesspool of consumer friendly buzzwords. They may as well called the phone the Samsung Galaxy Synergy.
I’m sure it’s fast. I’m sure that massive display is gorgeous. But the underlying feeling I get from this phone is design by committee. Droves of passionate designers pushed aside by executives looking for a quick buck, and a quick buck they will make.

I think it’s safe to say that this phone does not represent Android whatsoever any more. I will now conceed my congrats to those who purchased a One X, as they currently own the best phone on the market. They should have no buyers remorse.
The GS3 looks like garbage, regardless of it’s quad cores, or high-res screen, or hyperglaze.

An educated population is a free population. A free population is a threat. Domestic spying is a good way to strip liberties from those who have too many. This includes the massive treasure trove of information and free speech that is the internet.
