this is simply how they’ve decided to bring Ultrabook prices down—by making “almost” Ultrabooks. I expect to see a combination of $600-700 “almost” Ultrabooks and $900+ legitimate Ultrabooks from every manufacturer.
b/w I own a Folio13 (bought it on sale back in December), it’s nice. biggest gripes are the screen—not very bright and has poor viewing angles—and the touchpad, isn’t as responsive to clicks, left or right, as it should be. I think HP et al, will continue to make compromises like this for any laptop under $1000.

they do. try the Reader app. I think it just isn’t enabled for the Mail app, yet.

I wonder if the Mail app concurrently lists Hotmail, Gmail, Outlook etc. on the far left of the app or if you will have to pull up the App bar to switch between accounts? I hope it’s the former. In the Consumer Preview, the accounts are hidden once you select a message if your resolution is 1366×768 or lower. Perhaps, that’s the reason for the far left column being slimmer than it is in the CP.

ah. ok. if you append the first part of a Google cache link to beginning of a url, then you’ll see the cached version of that page. never knew that. (a simple Google search didn’t provide the option to see a cached linked for the b8 multi-mon post).

jokes? I think animation is almost always better than CGI when it comes to depicting stories which feature “super human” action. when you try to use real people (live action) to do unrealistic things it will invariably look goofy. as for child-friendly, the main things “missing” will be profanity and sex—no big deal. people (programs) are still dying and it doesn’t seem like the story will be hurt by any constraints. it’s not like Tron is breaking the fourth wall to remind kids to always wear their seat-belts and look both ways before crossing a street.

I love Firefox, but this is a purely political move by Mozilla. Windows RT devices are just that—they are not computers. they are akin to iPads not MacBooks. Mozilla will be able to develop a Metro style browser and that’s what people with Windows RT devices will want to use (!).
Windows RT won’t support plug-ins. So, there’s no point in using desktop IE on a Windows RT device other than desiring a different work-flow. Perhaps, you’d want to use desktop IE when you’ve docked a Windows RT device into a keyboard.
I understand why Mozilla is making a fuss about this because it’s in their interest to push the issue, but this decision by MS really does not hurt users because Windows RT users will use Metro browsers 90% of the time.

Ok. I almost had a case of buyer’s remorse—I bought the Folio 13 for $700 in December—but 1366×768 looks horrible on any screen bigger than 13in and I like the Folio design more, still a very good deal.

Click the Settings icon to the far right or the “More” link at the top. The icons on those pages are embarrassingly bad, amateurish even. The search icon (on the search results page) is pretty bad too.

Long overdue. Many of MS’ online sites moved to a cleaner style several months ago in line with the influence of Metro design.
Bing still needs some work though. Why the hell is the picture of the day just a tiny strip at the top of the screen.
And what happened to the filters on the left of the search results?

How does Tom get so many exclusives? The guy doesn’t seem that interesting or likeable—no offense.
