They’re a hindrance because they’re doing exactly what Microsoft did by promoting webkit only prefixes.

Rewrite Gecko. If it’s impossible to make it competitive, go after Microsoft on that basis. Though I fear they’re just not trying hard enough.

The thing is, Mozilla has proven with Firefox (beta today) that it can make a Gecko based browser without the Win32 APIs. They’re just reluctant to which is a shame.

You’re close but not right. No one has challenged Apple because tablets are considered an emerging market. The only reason this case has caught anyone’s attention is because Microsoft are pushing the idea of touch-based PCs which can run arm. Due to the fact they’re attempting to have one operating system that runs on all devices, this overlaps some of the constraints they were previously set. If Apple were to be challenged on their stance for iOS, they’d be forced to make concessions in the same manner that Microsoft were. Microsoft may show resistance but ultimately they’ll make it so a Gecko based system can run on Windows RT at the same speed IE can.

I do however feel like right now, Mozilla are being lazy in trying to take the shortest route possible to their goal. We all know and accept that compared to Microsoft and Google, they’re under-resourced.

That’s the wiki not a blog post, though I’m being pedantic. That said, they do state that though they’d prefer to have full Win32 API access, they’re willing to port Gecko so it runs natively.

That’s not it at all. Tablets are considered emerging markets and Microsoft has previous. If enough pressure was put on the EU to sort out the mess they’re allowing with iOS, they’d do it.

Apple are very clever to tow the line and always try and conciliate. Microsoft didn’t which was what brought the EU’s wrath down upon them. That said, I do feel Apple need the same treatment. They’re a hindrance to the internet, especially so the mobile web.

I think that’s the problem that Mozilla has. Ever since Chrome has beat them in the market share game, they’ve been running around with wounded pride looking for their new thing. They’ve begun identifying the way forward through Google Chrome’s eyes and it’s not something that people want to get behind. This whole Windows RT mess will further wound the Mozilla pride but it may be for the best.

Mozilla is primarily a browser company. A well coded browser. Can you define the bloat in Firefox? You seem to have just picked a bunch of nonsense from around the internet and are regurgitating it. It’s disappointing, I’m disappointed.

The problem here is that Apple aren’t being penalised for what they’re doing on iOS and so Microsoft is pushing the boundaries. Everyone needs to stop being stupid and clamp down on Apple.
