I am an incredibly nerdy college student and salesman on a never ending quest to find the perfect smartphone. Along the way I have used and abused WebOS, Android, iOS, S60 (please don't ask), and Windows Mobile. Right now I am eating popcorn and trying to resist the allure of the N9.

I would like to add that Pocket is only going to get worse—ditching the premium option (I paid for it) means they are probably going to monetize with ads, either for third party services or first party content. Either way your reading list is going to get spammed. Not good.

It’s not a perfect RSS client by any means, but it’s nice to have a dedicated desktop feed reader that doesn’t look like something you would find in a public restroom.
I’ve also tried out several different solutions that let me trick my computer into thinking my cloud storage accounts (Dropbox, SkyDrive, etc.) as networked drives. I’ve settled on Gladinet, but it’s not even close to an ideal solution. The application is buggy and the interface is awful, but it’s the only service that meets all of my current needs.

I disagree. What Microsoft needs is to instill in it’s customers the realization that software costs money. That will enable the sale of cheap third-party utilities with great interfaces and rich feature sets. They can do this by expanding the Windows Store into the desktop environment, courting independent mobile developers, and expanding the design of Metro to the desktop. Windows Live Essentials isn’t that great, I would rather pay fifteen to twenty bucks to get great replacements, but many lightweight Windows utilities look like junk, try to make money installing tool bars in your browser, and have mediocre support.

I should also point out that this app is really good for keeping up with design or art work blogs, it has an optional photo layout that’s a solid alternative to the traditional list view, and excellent podcast support. You do need to buy the full version to automatically download audio and video, and some of the other features I mentioned may not be available in the free version of the app—I never tried it out.

That’s the link to the app, for some reason it didn’t paste properly in my original post.

I was looking for the same kind of application not to long ago; I went to Reddit for help. I ended up using GReaderPro. You can set to sync all the time (I don’t because of battery concerns) and notify you when new articles come in. It doesn’t have a scheduling feature, but the settings menu is well laid out-It wouldn’t be hard to go in and turn off syncing when you don’t need it. There are options to sync differently when on Wi-Fi, which is helpful if you don’t have a grandfathered unlimited plan (I do).
You can set it to cache articles offline. The interface isn’t Holo, but it is really nice. In fact, I prefer it to many of the applications I do have that use the Holo theme.
The only downside to using it is the drain on your battery life. I have it set up to sync every fifteen minutes and download the full desktop version of the webpage, but that’s only because I have an extended battery. When I didn’t I kept syncing to once an hour and set it to download simplified mobile pages.

Well, they paid money for access to it—that sounds like licensing to me.
