“Do no evil” indeed. They capitulated to the Chinese government’s implied demand to continue spying on their citizens. What happened to the Google that left China rather than surrender to the government’s demands?

China? Of smartphones? I’d like to see some numbers on that. And do they have a subsidy model or a unsubsizided model?
And where do you see this happening outside the US? I’m extremely skeptical of that. Regardless, the US is the biggest market and if it doesn’t work here, it’s a nonstarter.

So this is basically Google trying to fend off Apple’s progress because they are losing at the carrier level. What makes Google think that people will be willing to pony up $600 for a device? This strategy has never worked before – not for the Nexus one and not even for the iPhone. Google’s grasping at straws.
