Hardly usable? Do people use them as paperweights then?

If you don’t drop the device from a decent height onto a hard material, which device is going to last longer in your opinion? Why are lots of ‘durable’ laptops made from glass & metal? Why are cheaper ones made from plastic?

GSMArena certainly does have the feel of a site giving their readers what they want to hear. There’s something quite ‘cheerleading’ about it. Can’t quite put my finger on it.

That’s pretty disappointing. I hope The Verge do something to highlight this. They give the chip makers a platform for the hyperbolic benchmarks, which is fine. It’s interesting to some readers, but they should also highlight that consumers should be also getting real world benefits and not just bragging rights for their money.

Then it’s unfortunate they they didn’t turn off auto-brighness off if it has the ability to make the screen look worse than it needs to.
They’re both in the same shot so the brightness of the picture shouldn’t favour one over the other, but granted the difference in background might be adding to my impressions.
Appreciate you owning both screen technologies, but I would have thought Vlad is also aware of the pro’s and con’s too. Also, no two screen techs are the same. We know that although the SGIII is Pentile, it’s a better version of the tech than we saw in the Nexus. So having a background in these technologies is helpful but not the same as having both screens side by side.

There aren’t 9 million losers. The preorders are from Carriers, not end users.

You’re right but the real world effect of having such amazing power, is only noticeable via these synthetic benchmarks or power efficiency. There are no Apps on Android that are going to really show off the bang you are getting for your buck on the SGIII.

“People expect the same experience on their phone as on their large screen TV so that means true Pioneer Kuro-like black”
Only for those lucky enough to have owned a Kuro. If people are comparing it to their large screen TV"s then both high end LCD and OLED screens will be living up to expectations.

How do you know the brightness is turned down?
I don’t think the difference in quality I am seeing is just down to the brightness level.
In that picture the LCD is doing a pretty damn good job of showing me the colour black. In fact it looks better then the SGIII. Might be different in person, but that’s what i’m seeing in that picture.
