Fair point, but most things I typically use IE for include news, and that’s pretty much it. And on a larger screen, the web interface is almost always superior, from my experience.
Google+ and Facebook notwithstanding, pretty much everything else I use has a very nice app to download.
And if Facebook would just let me have its new Newsfeed design that looks much nicer for touchscreens, I’d be a happy camper.

Not sure, since I don’t own either. I thought I remembered that 1-GB stat being the OS alone, without the full suite of stock apps.

doesn’t have enough tablet apps to be a good content consumption device.
What content do you consume that isn’t available on Windows 8 (or RT for that matter)? There’s been a lack of popular games, but really as far as news, movies, TV, music, etc.. it’s got pretty much everything, along with a desktop-class browser.

It must come bundled with another 6 GB of apps, then.

It’s true, the spec is not as impressive as it sounds at first blush, but I feel like calling it exploitative is sort of harsh. If they were to put it in units of megapixels, it would be more inappropriate since that’s a measure largely reserved for still photos.
They’re listing the spec as it should be listed, and telling you it’s impressive. That’s not exploitation.

Yes. Microsoft develops many great things for Windows 8, but a music production app doesn’t seem to be one of them, does it? Of my entire post, why is that one sentence the one you respond to?
You say something doesn’t exist, I say it does.
You say show you some, I do.
You question their quality, I buy one and tell you it’s pretty good for a small, inexpensive app.
You’re making hard to respond reasonably to you…

You’re not wrong, but it’s also not necessarily exploitative. When you see a phone or tablet brag about a 720p camera, it’s because they don’t want to let you know it’s just ~1.2 MP. I’m pretty sure it happens all the time. Either way, for the application of Kinect, I can’t see super-high resolution being necessary or even beneficial.

Garage Band is a fantastic app with an impressively broad feature set. It was also developed by Apple, a company that grosses in the billions.
All the piano apps on the Windows Store are developed by significantly smaller companies. I’m sure there are some that are fantastic in what they do, but don’t pretend someone’s going to try to argue that they’re Garage Band-level in quality. There are, however, several.

To put my money where my mouth is, so to speak, I bought the Grand Piano app in the second column. Really smooth with a really nice sound, easy to record/save/load your own work, and a nice little player piano feature with some preloaded tunes. It even integrates with the Share charm, making it easy to send a masterpiece.
This is, however, the first time I’ve actually been limited by my Surface RT’s 5-point multitouch. Not a dealbreaker, since I can’t actually play the piano, but I’m sure there’s someone out there who is inconvenienced by it.

Whoa whoa whoa, Windows 8 is a dream on every system I’ve tried to run it on. My Windows 7 PC booted up in around 66% of the normal time after I threw Windows 8 on there. My post was mainly a comparison of the iPad and the Surface RT, which still has its (steadily decreasing) performance quirks.
But yeah, Windows 8 itself is DAMN smooth. Gimme a next-gen ARM chip to run RT on and I’d be a happy camper.

And rock-solid performance. I own a Surface RT and love it to fucking pieces, but I can’t look at myself in the mirror and tell myself it performs as smoothly as an iPad would.

If you can boil down the PS4 to just the addition of a share button, can I boil down the Xbox conference to just the addition of a Video-In port?

Well, to be fair, a console announcement in February and a console announcement in late May need to be pretty different. Microsoft will have a pretty big venue to talk about games in the beginning of June, while it seemed pretty logical that Sony would focus on gaming aspects of their console, since honestly, “entertainment” is pretty much a given, and people tuning in to the announcement probably want to see games and not their new Netflix application.
This ad, though… I guess it’s necessary to highlight things like this, but I don’t really like it. In a perfect world, awesome WIndows 8 PCs would be able to sell without the aid of making fun of competitors.
