I get what you say, I guess the experience relies on the probability of query type and app state. Google is somewhat more consistent and lets you tap in parallel when stuff loads, its only inconsistent when it loads itself quickly or slowly.
Safari on the other hand deals with more states and depends on a query to load so you can go and search other types of search.
Safari
1. Load app quickly or slowly
2. Tap Search field OR
2.1 Dismiss bookmarks menu if there is no tabs OR (I hate this so much!)
2.2 scroll down site to show search bar if hidden OR
2.3 Create new tab if tab is important (2 steps)
3. Tap search field OR
3.1 Tap search field and load field (google app never does this, but maybe does it during app load)
4. Submit search term of “Everything” and wait to load
5. Select images OR select “More” then videos (2 steps)
The shortest path to a query is the same on safary and the google app, the longest path to a query is always faster in the new google app, my only beef with version 1.0 is that loading was sometimes unacceptable, version 2.0 seems to fix this.
The overall flow and less decision making process of the google app makes it a less frustrating experience for a quick query.

The black background thing only happens to me on images, no blurred edges for me anywhere.
its insignificant imo but surely a bug if you experience that everywhere.

The google app has less steps to get me to search, and safari frustrates me when it loads the bookmarks menu after I tap the search field, and all I want is to search google (or google images, or google video)
Also safari loads slowly when tabs are open and more so when taping the search field. Google always loads directly to the search bar and its faster to search images and videos. But I admit sometimes it takes too long to load the app or a search that it isn’t worth it, but this version fixes that.
Overal the google app is much more convenient to search, to actually use websites I use safari.

I replaced safari with the google app a long time ago, because I mostly use safari to search google.
I was thinking of going back to safari because the app was getting slow sometimes, but with this update is blazing fast, im not going back to safari (to search google)

So what happened to google’s real time search?
