Gets good reviews on Amazon so I don’t see any huge problem with it. Just keep in mind that it’s a 1080p display at 27" (an iMac display is 1080p at 21.5" and 1440p at 27") so the PPI is pretty bad – 81. I would try one out in store to see if you’re happy with that resolution at that big of a screen.

As with all these other smart folks, don’t get the regular Macbook Pro. Get the Air. It’s as fast (if not faster) than the Pro in terms of processor, has extremely faster storage, way better battery life, and is thinner and lighter. Really no reason to get the regular Pro now.

Beeeeeta.
They probably haven’t built in support for it yet. Wait for the public release.

You might want to see if they’ll let you put a USB 3 PCI card in. If they’ll let you, that’s what I would do. If not, USB 2 would give you a max speed of about 50 MBp/s while a hard drive typically is about 110 MBp/s. That’s really your call.

You’re looking at the standard MacBook Pro but the Haswell upgrade is (rumored) to be for the Retina MacBook Pro. I’m not sure Apple even plans on upgrading the standard MacBook Pro anymore until they discontinue it. I would recommend saving up some more for the new rMBP due this fall.

I had a late 2009 iMac that I just sold on eBay last month. It still had no problems with it, I just wanted a quad-core processor. :)

In addition to streamlining manufacturing for the Time Capsule, it is also taller to support 802.11ac and beamforming. I’m not quite sure how the technology works, but I’d take a taller router to have better wifi any day.

Since you say you are crazy about the portability of an MBA, that’s what I would suggest. I have an iMac and love it for the quad-core processor, but the MBA will run games decently (especially with the new graphics) and that’s probably your best option. If you want an rMBP, then wait until the Haswell upgrade for sure. There’s just too much lag on the 13" model to be acceptable for how much it costs (especially for you). One thing you might want to consider is if you have any friends or relatives in the States, have them buy it for you and ship it to you. You might end up saving a lot of money that way.

Since the OS and all applications are on the SSD with the Fusion Drive, it’s like using an SSD but you get the storage for all your media files. It’s a very good compromise in my opinion.

I have a 2011 MacBook Air and a 2012 Fusion iMac. Both are great. You won’t be disappointed IMO. Just make sure to have a good backup (if one drive fails, all the data is lost).

They’re going to wait for iOS 7. I’d be very surprised if they release for anything for iOS 6.1.3 or 6.1.4.

Everyone has said everything I use already, so the one thing I’ll emphasize is how much better iWork is than Office. It’s cheaper, cleaner, much snappier to use, and makes word processing not a chore. I don’t think I could recommend a certain app more.

For me the iMac worked, but it sounds like for your needs either a Mac Mini or Hackintosh Mini is your best option.
