debatable. It’s a good platform that will allow you to do all manner of bloggy and webby type things.. but is it the best? meh.

That’s like me saying “people are leaving Wordpress because of this stupid, ill-thought-out comment”… I’ve actually just left wordpress – by the mere virtue that I didn’t renew my Wordpress.com membership. So in a way, it’s true.
I think I’ll give tumblr a try out

you’re posting one side of the fring story. I suggest you read the other side which oddly paints a completely different story.
1) fring chose to remove the interoperability
2) fring were going and gets the API T&Cs
3) this happened before Microsoft owned Skype.

If you think this is about taking creepshots, you’ve either not read the article, or completely misunderstand the privacy concerns at hand here.
This is about google doing potentially privacy-impacting things without you knowing. Surreptitiously scanning faces and logging GPS positions, scanning wifi data, etc, etc.
And they’re being asked because they’ve been naughty boys before, and were caught out.

Let’s all say we’re not going to get one, but then immediately change our minds when we try it for the first time.

Didn’t quite get what all the fuss was about – something about reinforcing out-dated sexual stereotypes. Which is nice and all, but the movie as a whole isn’t the most PC when it comes to stereotypes in the first place.
Now, other (non-Disney) media that our children are exposed to on a daily basis are far far worse than what we’re seeing here. Are we truly worried about the media corrupting our children, or is this just a case of someone deciding to make the trivial changes made to a Disney character a scapegoat for the entire media industry?

As a youtube partner I couldn’t give a flying fuck about ads not being displayed on platform-x. If I did I would stop my videos being displayed on platforms that don’t support advertising – YouTube gives you that option.

Codec incompatibilities are trivial if you really want to get something done. You shouldn’t expect all competing platforms to use the same open codecs all the time – it’s simply not going to happen

^^ This… of course, we do have great gmail, google contacts and google calendar support baked in to the phone, and if we get google chat built in to the messaging hub I’ll be quite happy.
That said, they’re still being dicks about it on purpose.

that’s a good one, because Skype said that Fring chose to remove Fring – Skype functionality, not the other way around.
moreover, Fring were actually using Skype’s API that was against the terms and conditions, and licenses.
And finally, this all happened before Microsoft owned Skype

Strictly speaking Microsoft tends not to use open standards at any point. But you make an interesting point. The difference between google and microsoft is of course, google plays up its use of open standards, and then when you’re hooked it moves away from them.

I like your attitude. On one hand you make a comment about knowing google’s intentions, and on the other you criticise someone for making a comment about knowing google’s intentions. Go back to digg.

it’s amazing how easy it is to come up with a stat to make a point.
For example, if we evenly distribute iPhone users in the same way, you’d actually have to travel much further to find an iPhone user that wasn’t an arrogant prick

the size of my 920 was never a problem with me, especially when i got used to using it in earnest.. but for people not familiar with the phone it’s always the first thing they mention (or second, after the amazing screen).

Microsoft’s release schedule for consumer product software updates is traditionally twice a year too. Just they’re not in sync with Nokia or any other vendor.
