Now that the minimum requirements will drop from 1366×768 to 1024×768, I want to see in the new Surface RT, a 6" – 7" screen, sized similar to e-readers, a decent quality 1280×800 (16:9, begone) resolution.
Windows RT can differentiate from 8 with mobile broadband support. I know they have big plans and hopes for RT in the future, but until the desktop becomes a lot more irrelevant, it should be a tablet OS. Purely for touch without the need for a keyboard.
While I think a keyboard cover should come mandatory with the Surface Pro, a smaller RT tablet should not find the need for one. I think it should be an optional accessory. If they can make a keyboard cover of that size that’d be most impressive.
Also, drop the bloody integrated kickstand on the tablet, and integrate the kickstand into the keyboard cover instead. If they can’t find a way to integrate a keyboard into the cover, at least let it function as a kickstand.
Click.

Don’t be a prick. All I’m asking for is the volume control to not affect the volume of all alerts, only audio playback (music, games, video). No one will be confused.

Agreed. But Android is not for most people. Majority of Android users don’t buy Android because it’s Android.

I personally don’t use Instagram, but still first party support would be nice, even if it’s not as good as the third party one.

Extra complexity doesn’t have to be complex. Master volume shouldn’t affect ringtones/texttones.

WP8 don’t need to support 1080p. Seriously, no one needs 1080p on PHONES. It’s a pathetic device to watch movies on, I’m sure most people have proper computers or TV’s for that.
Add support for 16:10 resolutions perhaps. 16:10 or (8:5) is the best aspect ratio for anything! Movies should be in 16:10!

It’ll need a lot more than a cooler interface. Support for more formats, GAPLESS PLAYBACK.
Perhaps a desktop version as well (screw WMP) to include all of the features that iTunes has, and more, so that I can actually lose my dependence on iTunes.

A comment that I posted somewhere else on The Verge:
To me, Android is iOS, arranged in alphabetical order, but has another home screen layer which you can add widgets to.
WP is significantly different. I’ll C&P my comment that I posted from this article: http://www.theverge.com/2013/4/2/4176914/ios-7-behind-schedule-new-look#153766591
Really, it’s not about how it looks. It’s more about which design philosophy you ‘believe in’.
The design philosophy of the Modern UI compared to these ‘skeumorphism’ is just more convincing to most people.
The screen is really a flat glass. Do user interfaces need to look 3D? Does it improve in its practicality or function? If not, why do we still do it? Designers always strive for minimalism, clean aesthetics, less is more. Mies van der Rohe.
Design philosophy that leads to a new design language.
The resizable tiles on the home screen and the list of apps in a vertical list, to me, is just sensible innovation.
I’ll start with the vertical list. This list includes all the apps on the phone, much like the iOS home page. The only difference is that it’s a VERTICAL list. How is that better than a 5×4 icon layout? First of all it’s in alphabetical order, but more importantly, your eyes only need to look in only one axis (up/down), whilst for the grid view there is two.
However the vertical list does not make for an elegant home screen. A large majority of the screen will be filled with words. While it’s easier to know where your app is, it’s harder to get to your app. Because it has to be arranged alphabetically, there is also no room for customisation or personalisation.
That’s where the resizable tiles comes in. To act as a home screen and a perfect medium for personalisation and customisation. You only pick the apps that are important to appear on your home screen. And depending on how important it is, you decide on its size and position. Brilliant.
That is how I would explain the design of WP, and why I’m such a fan of it.
I compared it more to iOS than to Android. But really, OS is a matter of personal preference. I think geeks would love Android, Simple people or people who never tinker with things are probably suited for iOS, and everyone else IMO, should go to WP. I’m disregarding Ubuntu and Blackberry because I think gestures based OS are very unintuitive, and unintuitive things don’t belong in mobile.
That’s my vision, but WP will need time to mature and very importantly, expand its App ecosystem. I can only hope they’re successful in doing that.
