You’re hilarious. Taiwan operates completely independently of China and has done so for several decades. It is one of the freest countries in the world, has one of the best healthcare systems in the world, and has enjoyed economic development far beyond what China has experienced. China is still considered as a medium developed country by HDI, while Taiwan is considered highly developed.

Besides, a random drop means nothing in the grand scheme of things. People keeping their money in for the long-run will still average 17% returns. Day traders might get hurt, but they shouldn’t be day trading in the first place. If professionals who have studied for years can’t beat the market, why would untrained traders be able to even come close? Put your money in, keep putting your money in, don’t worry about random changes, and adjust your portfolio once or twice a year.

The fact it only fell 100 points shows most people did have doubts about the authenticity of the tweet. That’s like a .8% change or so; if the masses of traders actually jumped on this information, it would have been a much sharper drop.

Why? The price of a stock is the essentially the present value of all expected future cash flows/dividends from the stock. If this news were true, it would most definitely hurt future cash flows. Would you rather traders keep buying and pushing stocks higher than they are actually worth?
