What is it with you?
People like iTunes.
People even like iPhones BECAUSE of iTunes.
Blow your mind?
Deal with it.

Because, quite frankly, I still don’t have a clue what google music actually does and doesn’t, and I’ve been waiting for you to explain it. All you’ve shown is that you don’t know what iTunes does and doesn’t.
Have a nice day

That’s not why it started that way.
In 2001, when iPod hit the market, there was no conceivable way to run something independent of a computer.
That wasn’t even possible until pocket computing went mainstream, in 2007.
Also, for why using a music management application to manage your music is an advantage, it’s been explained to you quite a few times over. If you don’t get that, fine.
I find it rather more likely that you simply have no idea what people are talking about because you’ve never, ever bothered to try it. Which is okay. If your priorities don’t include music, that’s fine. But remember that that is what iOS built upon as its infrastructure, and that most people actually do listen to music, and more than a few with a little more than passing interest.

I’m sure the development and design team feel this way every time they work on something new.
It’s the whole point of how Apple works.

this might not mean much given their past record of disconnect with their customers, by which I mean, while in their minds they honestly might see something as truly revolutionary, when it hits the market a large portion of the general public don’t feel that way.
Are you living in that alternate universe where the iPhone 4s is a huge disappointment and the iPad is a useless gadget that will never sell?

Rather than introduce toggles for everything, I much prefer the current course of increasing battery life to “I really don’t care” usability levels.
I keep Bluetooth and Wi-Fi and vibration on all the time, because the usefulness of the phone is greatly diminished if I actually have to worry about that stuff. I have enough to deal with, and I’d rather the device itself get the fuck out of my way.
But then, that’s why I’m an Apple user in the first place.

The most recent data I could find was based on 2010 results, and that says that Android has 60% free apps, vs. 28% on the App Store.
HOWEVER:
a.) that is based on AVAILABILITY, not actual downloads, AFAICT. The proportion among DOWNLOADED apps isn’t clear from what I’ve been able to find, and that’s what the parent poster was talking about.
b.) In-app purchases were introduced to the App Store in early 2010, IIRC, and since then the balance has shifted dramatically towards free apps.
c.) This is 2012, not 2010. :-)

FWIW, at no point was I talking about iTunes Music Store. I was talking about music management, which is done through the iTunes software. It’s quite possible that Google’s Music service does something fairly similar as iTunes’ software integration does.
There’s a couple of caveats, though:
1.) it’s online-based.
2.) I can’t actually make a comparison, because
We’re sorry. The Google Play music player is currently only available in the United States.
And so, allow me to reiterate: media management through the computer-based iTunes software and seamless integration with that is one of the major strongpoints of the iOS platform.
Simply outright discounting that from the get-go does not constitute an evaluation of the platform.
If you still disagree, I guess there’s nothing anybody can do to change that until you actually try iTunes yourself, and perhaps even an iOS device at some point.
BTW, iTunes’ (and iOS’) Genius Mixes are pretty much the same thing as Google’s “Instant Mix”. I don’t see an equivalent to iTunes’ Smart playlists.
I also have no idea how well Google Play’s playlist management works, or how its tagging features for metadata compare to what iTunes offers. iTunes’ strengths in these areas, including smart playlists, are absolutely crucial to the way I work, and being able to quickly drag-and-drop together a work playlist and have that automatically synced to my iPhone is a pretty essential part of what I do.

Yep. Zune did something similar, back when it was available.
Wasn’t enough, apparently.

I tell you what iTunes does and why it resulted in a 70+% mp3 player market share.
YOU are the one telling me my points are invalid.
YOU show me why.
YOU make the comparison.

iTunes integration. Having the iDevice tied right into your media management application.
I realize it’s a complete given, these days, so it’s not really impressive.
But how come NOBODY ELSE DOES IT (apart from Zune)?
Freak nerds prefer to drag folders around the file browser, I guess. Go right ahead. The iPods’ market share speaks a clear language, and it wasn’t just the interface (see: Shuffle).

This thread’s premise is confused.
Ive’s team works hard at making stuff that seems like it just couldn’t be any other way, and they leave it like that until they find something that’s even better to their perception.
And so far, it’s almost always proven to be a good decision.
Stuff changes as fast as they can come up with something better, not due to scheduling or market pressure.
That’s not “fast enough” or “too fast” or “too slow”; it just is the way it is.
