its about money, and yes, local governments make good money I suppose from fees of taxis.
safety – taxis would go through at least cursory safety checking etc. and there is a person accountable. What if your ride shows up buzzed ? What if you ride is giving rides 12hours straight ? who will be accounting for that ?
As I said, 2 or 3 rides should cover “ride sharing” use case. More than that… its a problem for every one involved.
Ah! that damn regulation, you would be first one that would pile on government’s lack of policing these “rogue” rides if there is a pile up and couple of people die.
While SideCar is trying to win public opinion they should demonstrate willingness to work with regulators(government). In their app they can track how many trips the driver is doing and restrict it to 2-3 ride. Its a great idea, but they need to work with regulators.
My TV comes with Hulu, Netflix, Amazon instant video, barring sub-par interface there is no need for a set-top box. Amazon should convince the TV guys to include their software and specifically one that has good dashboard like XBox, where searching the content becomes easier and across various apps. A set-top is a bad idea, bake it into the TV.
