Cablevision and Dish (and Cox to a small degree) have a history of trying to upset the status quo (and failing). Everyone else just plays along, Comcast to the point of becoming a content provider.
A la carte won’t happen as long as most channels are owned by about 5 conglomerates who insist on all-or-nothing sale of their content.

Yeah. They can’t even get the software right when 90% of the work has already been done for them.

Also, IIRC, the North American ones are made in Mexico (just like VW’s N.A. Jettas), except the engines are made by Chrysler at a plant in Tennessee or something.

Me too, and I’ve driven VW for 22 years. All their stuff now (in the US, at least) has gotten WAY too bloated. I’d consider a diesel Golf, but they want like $8k more than a Fiat 500 for that.

I asked about changing the data plans on my account to better align with my usage. Rep said it would trigger a contract reset. Even if I was going to change to more expensive data plans it would trigger a contract reset. Also, I would have to change my grandfathered voice plan because “certain data plans can only be coupled with certain voice plans”. It’s shit like this, T-Mobile… This “get them on a contract at any cost” mentality is KEEPING ME FROM spending more money with you! My contract is up in November (should have been up in January but that’s another story) and I too will be going pre-paid. I’m tired of being straightjacketed.
How about you just concentrate on profitability wherever you can [legitimately] find it? All this jockeying for more on-contract customers and higher ARPU is not what you’re good at, and not what you need to do to stand out from the [sleazy] crowd.

Dear T-Mobile,
The customers will come running if you:
- Don’t charge for (pure profit) Hotspot like everybody else does.
- Charge less for (pure profit) text messaging than everybody else does. (Doesn’t even have to be a lot).
- Don’t force people into contracts at every turn like everybody else does. Contracts should only be for subsidized phones.
- Don’t limit people’s options to coerce people to the “premium plan” like everybody else does. Allow people to opt for a plan, or pick services a-la-carte.
- Don’t bloat up phones with software and services that nobody uses, like everybody else does.
In short, this is a market where it would be VERY EASY to stand out from the crowd simply by respecting your customers and forgoing the “easy buck” in favor of building a still profitable, LOYAL customer base.
BE NICE. Nobody else is doing that.
