IIRC, the HTC-direct price for the One is $575. $75 is nothing to sneeze at.

Some of us on Google+ are glad those clowns are still over at Facebook.

Precisely! I use G+ primarily because I don’t want Facebook-level exposure, and most of my friends are on it for the same reason.

It’s mostly to do with not having to wait an extra 6 months for version updates and being (pretty much) guaranteed 2 years worth of them.

That said, if you’re still on 4.1.2 today you’re in pretty good shape. 4.2 seemed to bring more bugs than features. 4.1.2 was so solid and fast. I kind of miss it.

If history has shown us anything, it’s that a large chunk of phone cost is patent royalties, deserved or not.

Truth. In fact if you buy almost any piece of consumer electronics from the mfr “store”, you’ll almost always pay close to the price you’ll find at retailers. They don’t want to undercut (anger) their retailers and would just as well have that markup for themselves if they are going to sell it direct.

I’d think that if you can unlock the bootloader on the standard AT&T/T-Mobile GS4, you’d be able to load this one’s image right up. No hardware exchange necessary.

When I went to Ireland I expected the big, clunky UK-style plugs and 240V outlets. What I didn’t expect was every outlet having a switch and that down was on. The first outlet I plugged anything into was on the lamp table between the hotel beds and I thought the switches were for the lamps. Took a bit of trial and error before I figured out what was going on.
